Who Is Jesus?

“He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed are thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven” – (Mt.16:15-17).

Jesus asked His disciples who they believed He was and Peter spoke for the group. He said – “Thou art the Christ,” which means the Messiah, the Anointed One, the One who was prophesied of in the Old Testament. Peter also said – “The Son of the living God.” Up to this point, this was the best confession and the highest tribute that could be made to Him. This is who Jesus is. “Whom say ye that I am?” This is the most important question you have ever faced in your life – your eternal destiny depends upon your answer.

Flesh and blood did not reveal this eternal truth to Peter, nor to any man. The Holy Spirit gave him supernatural insight into Jesus Christ’s true person and work. You do not learn this at the university or in the market place or from anyone else. Flesh and blood does not reveal this eternal truth to any man. If you know who the Lord Jesus is, you did not learn it from a person, but God revealed it to you through the operation of the Spirit of God.

The first name of Christ is Jesus which means Savior – “… and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins” – (Mt.1:21). His main propose was to die and shed His precious blood on the cross so ‘whosoever’ could be saved from their sins and hell. “And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world” – (I Jn.4:14). The angels told the shepherds at His birth in Bethlehem“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord” – (Lk.2:11). Jesus is the Christ and the Lord. He is God our Savior.

God the Father witnessed of His beloved Son, the Lord Jesus – “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” – (Mt.3:17). Again in (Mt.17:5) on the Mt. of Transfiguration – “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” Again – “If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son” – (I Jn.5:19). Do you hear him? Are you saved and born again? If you are, then God puts His witness within you, the Holy Ghost. “He that beliveth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he beliveth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” – (I Jn.5:10-12).

We have the witness of many men testifying that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, in addition to His Father. We have the witness of John the Baptist who was sent to prepare the way for Christ – “And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God’” – (Jn.1:34). Nathaniel said – “Thou art the Son of God; thou art the king of Israel – (Jn.1:49). The centurion at Jesus’ crucifixion said – “Truly this was the Son of God” – (Mt.27:54). The angel Gabriel said to Mary – “ …therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God” – (Lk.1:35). And so Jesus Christ is the virgin born Son of God, the Savior of the world.

His disciples said – “…Of a truth thou art the Son of God” – (Mt.14:33). Even Satan’s devil’s were forced to confess Him as the Son of God – “And , behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God…” – (Mt.8:29). Even Satan himself, when tempting Him, called Him the Son of God – (Mt.4:3). The Ethiopian eunuch confessed Christ as the Son of God – “… I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God” – (Acts 8:37). And Jesus many times called himself the Son of the Father – “All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him” – (Mt.11:27). When the apostle Paul got born again it is written – “And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues that he is the Son of God” – (Acts.9:20).

Jesus Christ is the second person of the trinity, He is the Lord, the Son of God. His full title is – the Lord Jesus Christ. He is co-equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit – “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who being in the form of God, though it not robbery to be equal with God. But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” – (Philip.2:5-11). His exalted name, the name which is above every name, is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God, God in human flesh. His name was chosen with infinite wisdom by His Father.

He’s the Word of God, the Life, the Light, the Glory of God, Gods’ great and final High Priest, who both made the sacrifice and is the sacrifice, the only Mediator between God and man, the Redeemer, our Righteousness, the Water of Life, the Bread of Life, the Good Shepherd, the Door, the Way, the Truth, etc, etc.

A person that does not believe in Christ and get born again is an antichrist. He denies that Jesus is the virgin born Son of God come in the flesh. “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.” “And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God and this is that spirit of antichrist…” - (I Jn.2:22 and I Jn.4:3). We are fast approaching the day when those that are antichrist will be manifest to all. They will be wearing the name and number of Antichrist in their forehead or right hand – 666. They will choose sin and darkness and Satan and eternal death and Antichrist instead of righteousness and light and God and eternal life and Jesus Christ. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? – (Jer.17:9).

The Lord Jesus Christ – in this one proper name we see as conjunction of God and man. God was manifest in human flesh. He died and shed His blood on the cross as our sacrifice and atonement for sin – as our Savior. And He rose from the dead three days later and brought resurrection life to conquer the world’s most pressing problem – death.

He proved to be God when His blood He shed.

He proved to be God when He rose from the dead.

The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the gospel of Christ. “For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” – (Rom.6:23). Again – “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” – (I Cor.15:54,55,57).

No man in history ever spoke with such power and wisdom. The unbelieving officers said  -Never a man spake like this man” - (Jn.7:46). Instead of arresting Him, they had been arrested by what they heard. How this magnified Christ as “the Word of God.” It was not His miracles which had so deeply impressed them, but His speech. True indeed was their witness, for the One they had listened to was more than ‘man’ – He was “the Word was God” – (Jn.1:1). What sayest thou of Christ, my reader? Do you own that “never man spake like this man?” Have His words pierced you through to the “dividing asunder of soul and spirit?” Have you responded to His voice that says – “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again” – (Jn.3:6,7). When you have been born again by the Holy Spirit then you can say in truth – “Never a man spake like this man.”

Is the Lord Jesus your Savior? “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” – (I Tim.2:4). Have you been born again – “But as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. Which are born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God – (Jn.1:12,13). A person is born again when you truly believe the seed of the gospel – “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever” – (I Pet.1:23). Do not spurn the love of God in His beloved Son on the cross or the wrath of God still abides upon you.

Repent of your sins and by faith believe on Christ in your heart and you will receive forgiveness of sins. You will become a newborn creature in Christ. Born again describes what happens to you when you’re truly saved – you receive a new heart and a new Holy Spirit within you. Be born again into the family of God and have the greatest Daddy in universe as your Father – God the Father. Receive eternal life through Christ – “And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” – (I Jn.5:11,12).

Receive Him and know personally that He is the Son of God.
