Keepers of the Truth
“Which keepeth truth forever” – (Ps 146:6).
God the Father is a God of absolute truth and fidelity. He is the true God. We can take Him at His word – for He keepeth truth forever. Our God does not bear false witness. He is the faithful and true witness and His word is truth – “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” – (Jn.17:17). And God’s son, the Lord Jesus is the living Word of God and also is the truth – “And his name is called the Word of God” – (Rev.19:13). Jesus said –“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” – (Jn.14:6). And again – “The only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth” – (Jn.1:14). The Lord Jesus Christ is the faithful and true witness who bears witness unto the truth. He is God manifest in the flesh – the keeper of the truth. Truth is very, very narrow and is found only in one person, the God -man who cannot lie. And God’s word is found only in one book, for He makes no mistakes – it’s found only in the King James Bible.
And we which are saved and born again by Him are also the ‘keepers of the truth.’ For we are the born again, redeemed sons of God. “Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me , O Lord God of truth” – (Ps.31:5). We are saved by believing the truth of God’s word. Jesus Christ is the truth and God’s word is the truth. The unsaved do not believe Bible truth. “That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness” – (2 Thes.2:12). After we’re saved we bear witness unto the truth – we are truth tellers. We are also doers of the truth – we are truth doers.
What an important and grave responsibility we carry – to be keepers of the truth. The world cannot receive the truth except we preach the truth to them and live the truth in their sight. Because most people reject God’s truth is no excuse to quit preaching it.
When we’re born again the third person of God, the Holy Spirit, dwells in us and teaches us the truth because He is the truth. “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you” – (Jn.14:17). We are God’s temple and he makes us the keepers of His truth. Immediately we are truth tellers. We tell others that they need to be saved and we become witnesses for Jesus Christ with our mouths. We preach the word of truth to them. As new born babes in Christ we need to grow up by feeding on the simple milk of God’s word and then grow on the strong meat of God’s word and become a mature Christian. The more truth we learn we must also do for the Holy Spirit will not teach truth to a hypocrite who refuses to do it. We feed on truth and grow on truth. We get the victory over the devil by the truth. It makes us strong in the Lord – it’s a part of our armour. “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth” – (Eph.6:14). Jesus defeated the devil by the truth of God’s word and we do the same. – (Mt.4:1-11).
First we’re saved by believing the truth and then the Holy Spirit of truth dwells in us – we are keepers of the truth. Then second, we become tellers of the truth – we bear witness of the truth. We don’t keep the truth to ourselves, but we preach it and speak it and teach it and it gets people saved. To not speak the truth because of the fear of persecution (because God’s truth reproves them) is a terrible thing. We who are the keepers of God’s truth must not be silent because of fear. We bear a grave responsibility because there is no hope for this world without God’s truth. Truth and light are synonymous in the bible- (Mt.5:14-16). We are not to hide the truth because we are the light of the world, we put it on a candlestick to be seen by all. We must read and study and meditate on the bible and let the great teacher, the Holy Ghost, teach us the truth and then speak the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth as a faithful and true witness, even unto death.
We are not to fear death, for we have conquered death through Jesus Christ our Lord. We must never lie and bear false witness, but neither should we be silent witnesses. We are true witnesses who preach the truth. “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you” – (Mt.5:10-12). The prophets preached the truth and Jesus preached the truth and they were killed. Oh, there is a price for speaking the truth. To speak the truth could very well make you a martyr, but that is our calling. We are truth tellers for the Lord Jesus.
means witness, and the devil and his children have always tried to kill the
truth. It’s a serious calling but it’s glorious. (see Luke 4:16-30). In Jesus’
home town of
In (Jn.18:33-38) Jesus stood in front of Governor Pilate and Pilate asked him – “What hast thou done?” – (vs.35). Jesus’ answer was – “To this end was I born, and for this cause came I unto the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Everyone that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, what is truth?” – (vs.37,38). Jesus Christ came down to this world as the keeper of truth. He told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth as the faithful and true witness. He was a martyr to the truth. And Pilate crucified the truth to pacify the Jewish leaders. Jesus is the Amen – (The Truth) – “These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God” – (Rev.3:14).
In (Acts 7) the preacher Stephen was martyred. He preached the truth and they murdered him. He was a keeper of the truth- the only truth on planet earth. “For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us and shall be with us forever” – (2 Jn.2). Which keepeth the truth forever – amen. They were deaf to God’s truth like most are today – (2 Tim.4:2-4).
It is written in (Is.26:2) “Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.” Keepers of the truth are righteous people. They are doers of the Word and not hearers only. In (Rev. 22:7,9,13) Jesus tells us the righteous, saved people, the keepers of the truth, who keep the sayings of God’s bible and have the right to enter through the gates into God’s Holy city, New Jerusalem, that the gates will be opened to him forever. This is one of the rewards for the keepers of truth. First – we are saved by believing the truth of God’s word of truth – truth believers. Second – we then bear witness to the truth – truth tellers. Third – we are doers of the truth – truth doers.
In (Rev.11) we see the last two prophets – the keepers of truth. They are the great tribulation witnesses. The two olive trees and two candlesticks – two bright, shining lights in a wicked and dark world. They are filled with the Holy Spirit, preaching pure truth and bearing witness to the truth for 3 ½ years. The same length of ministry as Jesus, and like Jesus the world kills them. They are given no burial and they resurrect from death and ascend up to heaven like Jesus. The Beast can only kill them when their ministry is finished. Yes, the keepers of the truth are God’s born again witnesses who have a grave responsibility and a glorious future. God’s truth is mighty and will prevail overall.
Have you believed Gods’ truth and been saved and born again? Repent of your sins and believe on the truth, the Lord Jesus Christ, for remission of sins. Come to Him with a humble and contrite heart and turn away from your wicked ways and you shall be saved. Be free from the bondage of your sins. Let Jesus, the Redeemer, save you from your sins and set you free. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth and shall make you free” – (Jn.8:32). True liberty and freedom is found only in Him – He is truth.
The keepers of the truth
A sacred and glorious calling.
