Proud Empire Trees
“And say, Thus sayeth the Lord God; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colors, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar.”
“There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots towards him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation. It was planted in good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.”
“Thus sayeth the Lord God; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent: In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing: in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell. And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the Lord have spoken and have done it” – (Ezk.17:2,7,8,22-24).
In this parable
of the eagles on top the high trees God is showing us the high-minded, exalted,
proud empire trees and the proud, exalted eagles on the top. God says this
This first great
eagle in (vs.3) is none other than the Babylonian Empire and Nebuchadnezzar.
The second great eagle is
The eagle’s great
wings and long pinions speaks of great military power and vast dominion – an
empire, while the many feathers speaks of the many nations subject to Babylon
and the world emperor – Nebuchadnezzar. Different nationalities of different
colored skins are represented in the empire by the different colors of the
eagle. O’ how this parable speaks to
It should be
plain to all of God’s saints today that when we conquered
In (Ezk.31) the watchman prophesies again of
trees and empires. He warns Pharaoh, King of Egypt, that he’s going to go the
same way as the Assyrian Empire did. God compares them to a lofty cedar. God
was saying in effect to
In (Dan.4) Emperor
Nebuchadnezzar had a vision of a great tree and the prophet Daniel interpreted
it – “The tree that thou sawest which
grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof
to all the earth. If is thou, O king, that art grown. and become strong: for thy greatness is grown and reacheth
unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth. And whereas the king saw
a watcher, and an holy one coming down from heaven and saying, Hew the tree
down and destroy it…” – (Vs.20,22,23). God humbled this proud emperor tree,
he cut him down by giving him a heart of a beast and dwelt with the beasts and
looked like an eagle – “His hairs were
grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws” – (Vs.33). It
sure points to the eagle on the presidential shield. Our president is becoming
a giant redwood, like Nebuchadnezzar’s giant emperor
tree. He forgets that God cut down the Nebuchadnezzar tree to a stump and the
stump was a human beast – who is a type of the antichrist-beast soon to come.
God says in
(Ezk.17:22-24) “Thus saith the Lord God;
I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it: I
will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent: In
the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth
boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all
fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell. And all the trees of the field shall know
that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree,
have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry
tree to flourish: I the Lord have spoken and have done it.” In grace God
would raise up a branch in David’s house which would be fruitful. God would
place him on the top of the cedar on
Yes the ‘tender branch’
is the Lord Jesus sent by a tender, loving God to save us from our sins – “That the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender
mercy” – (Jam.5:11). Do you not see the humble Savior dying on the tree for
you? “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness…” – (I Pet.2:24). He’s coming back in
power and great glory as King of Kings and Lord of Lords and be the everlasting
Emperor of planet earth. He will rule from
Job also prophesies of the Lord Jesus, the
tender branch of a tree – “For there is a
hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground. Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth
boughs like a plant. But man dieth , and wasteth away: yea, man giveth
up the ghost, and where is he? If a
man die, shall he live again?...” – (Job
14:7-10,14). Not only did the Lord Jesus humble Himself on the lowly tree on
God gave this tree sermon to Ezekiel, God’s watchman, to blow the trumpet of warning about proud empire trees. God called him the son of man which is the title of the greater Son of Man, the Lord Jesus who fulfills it all. Jesus Christ is the lowly humble tree of salvation that will be exalted to Emperor of earth. Are you saved and born again in Christ? Repent of your sins and believe on Christ in your heart for forgiveness and remission of sins. If you do this in truth you will be saved and have eternal life. Don’t reject this precious free gift of grace or the wrath of God abideth upon you. “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures “ – (I Cor.15:3,4). “And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life” – (I Jn.2:25).
Beware of proud empire trees like the Nebuchadnezzar tree.
The Lord will bring down the highest tree ever – the proud U.S. Redwood.
Humble yourself at the lowly tree cross – the Jesus Christ tree.
“The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan” – (Is.2:11-13). The day is coming soon when all of man’s pride will be brought low, and the Lord Jesus Christ will be exalted over earth – Amen.
