The Testament

“For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for many for the remission of sins.” (Matt.26:28) “For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.”(Heb. 9:16)

“And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.”

                                (Hebrews 9:15-17)

It is important for you to understand the doctrine of testament in the Bible because our Holy Bible is divided into two sections (the Old Testament and New Testament). What does this word testament mean? The preface in my King James Bible says “The Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments.” The preface of the New Testament says, “The New Testament of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Testament and testator are mentioned sixteen times in the Bible, all in the New Testament- eight times in Hebrews chapter 9.

First of all, the word is not covenant. Although many Bible versions have changed it to the Old and New Covenants. In my text (Matt.26:28) the New International Version says, “This is my blood of the covenant.”  The words “new” and “testament” are taken away and replaced with one word- “covenant.” In the NIV in Hebrews 9 the words testament and testator are all removed and the words “will” and “covenant” are used instead. But the word testament is not just taken away in the new Bible revisions, but also by preachers when they preach and tell you the Greek means covenant, etc.-etc.-blah-blah-blah-blah. (Bible scholars so-called). The word testament was totally removed from the Bible by Westcott and Hort and became the basis for all the new Bible versions. The authorized King James naturally corrects all this non-scholarly, irrational foolishness.

“Jesus Christ is the mediator of the New Testament.” (Heb.9:15) But not according to the ASV or the NASV or the NIV or the RSV or Evangelicals or Catholics or Protestants and most Fundamentalists. Are you listening? They say He can only be the mediator of the New Covenant. They take away from God’s infallible word.

The word “covenant” means (1) an agreement between two parties, (2) a formal solemn and binding agreement, and (3) a contract. A covenant is made without the death of a man. A testament is involved in the death of the testator. In Hebrews 9 the gospel is likened to and is in fact a Last Will and Testament. It’s the last will and testament of the Lord Jesus Christ and it shows the necessity of the bloody death of Christ to make this testament valid.

A testament is surely a covenant (an agreement or contract). But it only goes into force when the testator dies. The covenant becomes a testament because it becomes effective after his death. Millions of people have gone to lawyers and made out a last will and testament and they didn’t make out a last will and covenant. Amen. This contract is a testament. A testament is a voluntary act and deed of a single person, duly executed and witnessed, bequeathing legacies to heirs, which takes place after his death. It’s a free gift. It’s grace.

Since Jesus Christ died and shed his blood to establish a new covenant, the word testament here is the perfect word. The testament is both a covenant and a will. And the collective deaths of the Old Testament sacrifices from Genesis through Malachi constitute an old testament. Being replaced by the singular death of the Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus Christ- a New Testament. Since Jesus Christ, the testator, died, he left us a testament. So it is no longer a covenant, but a testament. Amen. We must always correct the Bible correctors with the True Bible- the inerrant, infallible, authorized King James Bible. Heb.9:17,”For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.” Substitute covenant and covenantor for the testament and testator and it destroys all sense of truth.

It is Jesus Christ’s last will- made of his own free will and his Father’s will. That’s why it’s called a testament. It disposes of a person’s wealth and property to others. Are you in the will of God? It’s God’s free gift to you. It’s God’s grace.

The beginning of sin is the motto “I will.” “He that committeth sin is of the devil: for the Devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the Devil.” (I John 3:8) Original sin started with Lucifer, the Devil. Lucifer was a cherubim, the highest created creature of God. God created him with a free will and Lucifer set his will over God’s will.

In Isaiah 14:12-15 we see the five “I wills” of Lucifer. This is sin in embryo. As a free moral creature, he is allowed to do this, as we humans are. He lifted up his heart in pride and set his will against God’s will. That’s how Satan got Adam and Eve and the rest of the human race to sin. To do their own will and eat of the forbidden tree, instead of God’s will and not eat of it.

The middle letter in pride is the big “I”. The middle letter in sIn is the big “I”. That’s what sin is all about. Puffed up puny men say to God, “I won’t do what you want me to do. I’m going to do it my way.” “All we like sheep have gone astray: we have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)

So people take their free will and rebel against God and do their own will which is contrary to God’s will. This is sin and in order to get saved, we have to take our free will and do God’s will and repent of sin and believe on Jesus Christ for remission of sins. We believe the New Testament- there’s the will again. “Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” (Rev.22:17) Jesus said in Matthew 26:39, “Nevertheless not as I will but as Thou wilt.Yes, sin revolves around the will. No wonder the gospel of salvation is a testament. Amen and Amen.

Notice in Hebrews 9:15, Testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. Right in the middle of the testament and testator is the inheritance. (A covenant doesn’t give you an inheritance, a testament does.) These are the great legacies that Christ, by his last will and testament, has bequeathed to those who are saved by Him. If you repent and believe on Jesus Christ for remission of sins, if you believe the New Testament, you will inherit all things. You become an inheritor of God’s will. I Peter 1:4 says, “To an inheritance incorruptible and that fadeth not away, reserved in Heaven for you.” This eternal inheritance is made available to all that believe the New Testament of the testator, the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Hebrews 6:12, it says we shall “inherit the promises.” I Corinthians 6:10 says we shall inherit the Kingdom of God.” In Matthew 5:5 it says we shall “inherit the earth.” We shall be kings and priests and we shall reign on the earth, according to Revelations 5:10. In Matthew 19:29 we inherit everlasting life.

Colossians 3:24 says, “The reward of the inheritance.” In Ephesians 1:13 it says, “In whom ye also trusted after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” The Holy Spirit in us is the earnest (the down payment) of our inheritance. Have you been born again by the Holy Spirit? Do you have the down payment of your eternal inheritance?

Psalms 16:5 says “The Lord (Jesus) is the portion of my inheritance.” Praise the Lord Jesus, the testator of the New Testament, who died and shed his blood for the remission of sins. Who, when he saves us, places our name in His will and will bequeath to us our inheritance at His second coming.

God bestows this inheritance. We do not earn it. We do not work for it. It’s by grace. We become heirs through faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 8:17 says “And if children, then heirs: heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ.” Believers of the last will and testament of our Savior the Lord Jesus Christ are in God’s will and become heirs of God. Our Father has bequeathed to us an inheritance because we are the born again children of God. Read the contract. Read the New Testament. Believe it. Get in God’s will.

The eternal inheritance is for whosoever will.” Will you be in Christ’s will? Jesus said in John 5:40, “Ye will not come to me that ye might have life.” Take your free will and repent of your sins of self-will and do God’s will.

For this is my blood of the New Testament.” His last will and testament ratified with his precious blood. He’s the Great Testator. He owns all the property and wealth in Heaven and Earth. He’s not a measly billionaire, but a zillionaire. His wealth is so great it cannot be numbered. Oh Alleluia, I’m in the Zillionaire’s will! (Heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ) My testator loves me. He died and shed his blood for remission of my sins and will bequeath to me riches of his. He wrote me in His will on March 17, 1972. I got born again into God’s family. I became a child of God. I cried out “Abba, Father.” “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Jesus Christ. And if ye be Christ’s then ate ye Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.” (Gal.3:26,29) Are you in the family of God? Are you an heir of God?

Like all last wills and testaments, there are conditions to be met in order to inherit. The condition in order to be written into God’s will is to receive forgiveness of sins by repenting and believing in your heart on Jesus Christ. “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Will you be saved? Will you be in God’s will?

Read the contract. Read the New Testament. See what God’s will promises to believers in Christ. Add your name to God’s will. Our Holy Father has bequeathed to believers an inheritance. Believe it.

The whole Bible revolves around this doctrine of the Testament. That’s why the Bible is comprised of the Old and New Testaments. We preachers are “able ministers of the New Testament” (2 Corinthians 3:6)

The last place in the Bible that we find the word testament is in Revelations 11:19, “And the temple of God was opened in Heaven and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament.” (King James Bible) Not ark of the covenant. The ark of the covenant had the mercy seat on it where the atoning blood was sprinkled seven times on the Day of Atonement. Now it has become the ark of the testament because the Lord Jesus sacrificed Himself and shed His blood once for all to atone for our sins. The Testator has died. The ark of the covenant has become the ark of the testament. The mercy seat is Jesus Christ. The covenant-contract  between God and man has been ratified by the atoning bloody death of Christ. It’s now the ark of the testament. Amen. Make sure you’re in the ark of salvation.

Our Bible is the Old and New Testaments. Don’t let anyone change it to Old and New Covenants. Are you saved? Are you in God’s will and testament? Will you be in God’s will? Will you be an heir of God? Are you a born again child of God? Are you an heir of God and joint-heir with Christ? Are you in the will of God? To be in the permissive will of God you must believe the New Testament. Then you are an heir in God’s will and testament.

Will you believe God’s New Testament? Will you be one of God’s heirs? The Son of God died for your sins. You can inherit through his New Testament. “This is my blood of the New Testament which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the Testator.” “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.” Don’t miss out on the greatest inheritance in the universe.

If you will be saved, “Call upon the name of the Lord (Jesus)

First – Repent of your sins - turn away from your wicked ways.

Second – Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ in your heart.

Third – Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and give your testimony.

If this is done in truth, you will now be a new creature in Christ. Born again and an heir of God.
