Out of Roman Catholic Darkness Into His Marvelous Light

The Testimony of Evangelist Mike Storti

“That ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (Peter 2:9)

“Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what He hath done for my soul.” (Psalms 66:16)

How Jesus Christ delivered me from the largest and most deceitful Christian cult in the world and saved my soul and made a new creature out of me. How he took me out of the Scarlet Harlot Church and placed me into the Pure Bride of Christ.

The first scriptures I ever read were Matthew 22:35-46. I read them in March, 1972, in solitary confinement in prison where I worked as a prison guard. I never read the Bible once in my life. I never saw anyone read the Bible. My Catholic Bible, with the Pope and the Cardinals in scarlet, was just kept in a drawer as a good luck charm. It was too holy to read. I was never once told to read it or take it to Church.

I was 31 years old, an Italian-American, and a Roman Catholic all my life. Almost all my relatives are Catholic. At that time, my wife and I were getting a divorce after 13 years of marriage. We were near the end of the six-month waiting period for a final divorce. Praise the Lord, Jesus saved us and mended our broken and sinful hearts and healed our broken marriage. He gave us a new heart and a new spirit and we’ve now been married 45 years.

The main difference between Catholics and Baptists (which I now am) is the preaching and believing of the Word of God and getting saved. Nobody ever got saved in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Gwinn, Michigan, where I grew up. “So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.”  (Romans 10:17)

No longer do I believe in an infallible Pope, calling himself by the blasphemous name of ‘Holy Father.’ I believe in the infallible Word of God. Oh, the Papal Pride that makes a man take the name of God. (Matthew 23:9)

Yes, I began to read the Word of God and to search for the truth. As I worked the midnight shift as a prison guard at a maximum security prison in the U.P. of Michigan called Marquette State Prison, that night I had nothing to read, so I found a Bible in a cell and cracked it open and started to read Matthew 22:35. I read about lawyers and laws and the two great laws – “First…love God and second…love thy neighbor.” (Matthew 22:37-39) If we obeyed these two laws, we wouldn’t need police and prisons and lawmakers in government. Oh, the wisdom of Jesus touched my heart! I read in John 3 where Jesus said, “Ye must be born again” of the spirit or you can never see or enter into the Kingdom of God. I knew that nothing remotely resembling being ‘born again’ had ever happened to me. I thought, “Is Jesus the Son of God as the Bible claims? If He is, I had better take heed to His words.” I opened up my heart a crack to the truth. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the father but by me.” (John 14:6) Then God started to send witnesses my way. The next day outside a movie theatre where they were showing a religious movie called, ‘The Late and Great Planet  Earth,’ a man gave me a salvation tract entitled ‘What Must I Do To Be Saved.’ I read and reread this tract and I got more light, but I still had not ‘heard’ the Word of God preached by God’s preacher in the power of the Holy Ghost.

Then I got a visit from a born again woman named Joan with the Holy Bible in her hand. She witnessed to me and invited me and my wife to a bible preaching church about 25 miles away, and even though I was taught that this was a sin, I went to this Protestant Church.

I figured I could confess it in the confessional to the priest later. Oh, how spiritually blind I was! No man can forgive sins, but Jesus only. Jesus said, “Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.” (Mark 2:5) and it’s blasphemy for any man to pretend to have the power to forgive sins that God’s Son only has. When I turned by faith to  the Lord Jesus in true repentance, then and only then, did I for the first time find forgiveness of sins.

In this church, we sang songs about the Blood of Christ and ‘Jesus Saves’ and the ‘Old Rugged Cross’ that I had never sung before. People stood up and gave testimony how Jesus had saved them and the preacher began to preach on Revelations 22, ‘The Last Call in the Bible.’ He said, “Are you thirsty for eternal life?” And the Spirit and the Bride say come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the Water of Life freely.” (Revelations 22:17)

Then there was an altar call for people to be saved “by grace through faith” and I froze in my pew, but my wife hurried forward and was saved from her sins and from then on I had a new wife.

I didn’t know what an altar call was. When we went to the altar in my Catholic Church, it was for Communion. We stuck out our tongue and a wafer was placed on it. We were told that this was the actual body of Christ and that we were “receiving Christ.” Oh, the spiritual blindness that I was in! A priest may place a wafer in your mouth but he can never place faith within your heart – AMEN.

One morning the following week, after all-night prayer by Christians, after I worked the midnight shift at prison, I came home and went to a friend’s house. I kneeled down over the footstool while they prayed for me and I repented of my sins and by faith received Christ as my Savior. It was March 17, 1972 (St. Patrick’s Day) and I was born again. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (II Corinthians 5:17) The old Mike Storti died (passed away) over that footstool and a brand new Holy Spirit creature arose. The cigars and alcohol ‘passed away.’ The filthy language ‘passed away,’ and all I could say was Praise the Lord for saving me. My adultery ‘passed away.’ My pool shooting in the bars ‘passed away.’ My old friends ‘passed away.’

I had the living waters from Jesus’ well in me. I have eternal life and all the saints are invited to my millionth birthday party. One day on March 17, I’ll be a million years old. My fleshly birthday one day will cease, but my spiritual birthday goes on forever. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

I was saved from the second death in the Lake of Fire. “And death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death.” (Revelations 20:14)

Never once did I pray to Mary again. Listen, when you’re sick, call on the Doctor, not the Doctor’s mother. I was taught that Mary was Co-Redeemer with the Lord Jesus. If I wanted to get to Jesus, I went through His mother, Mary.

I quit confessing my sins to the priest. No longer do we have human priests mediating between God and man. Our High Priest, Jesus Christ, sitteth on the right hand of the Father making intercession for us. “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (I Timothy 2:5)

I quit indulgences (time off in purgatory). There is no Purgatory in the Bible. No halfway house between Heaven and hell. I used to dip my fingers in holy water and make the sign of the cross. This gave me four years off in Purgatory. I quit praying for the dead in Purgatory and having masses said for dead relatives. We had a saying – High Money-High Mass- Low Money-Low Mass – No Money-No Mass. Multiplied millions of dollars go into the Catholic coffers because of their blindness.

I quit worshipping Images. All my life, from a little boy, I worshipped images. In church- in my car- in my house- around the neck. “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or likeness of anything that is in Heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them. (Exodus 20:4) and again “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” (I John 5:21). Don’t make an image first of all and never, never worship one. This is the mark of false worship and false religion throughout the Bible. “No idolater shall inherit the Kingdom of God.” (I Corinthians 6:9-10)

No more going to idolatrous shrines and relics where images are crowned by Popes. I quit praying to dead saints. I quit Genuflections and Processions. I quit Feast Days and Holy Days and not eating meat on Fridays. I quit praying the Rosary. I quit wearing medals and scapulars and lighting candles.

I was out of Roman Catholic Darkness, saved by the grace of God with the light of the Holy Ghost living in me. Yes, Jesus opened my blind eyes and turned me from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God and I received forgiveness of sins. And God called me to be a Baptist preacher of the precious Word of God.

Now I love God’s Word and meditate and study it every day. It’s a spiritual book for spiritual people. I saw the light. It’s like a 1000-watt light bulb went on inside of me. I’ve been enlightened (inward light). “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” (Psalms 119:105) “I am the light of the world.” (John 9:5)

Jesus Christ saved me from inner darkness and also the outer darkness of hell. He gave me light and discernment to know the difference between good and evil – between a good church and an evil church. Jesus took me out of Roman Catholic darkness and placed me in His marvelous light. I praise the Lord Jesus forever and ever: he will do the same for you.

First – Repent of you sins - turn away from your wicked ways.

Second – Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ in your heart.

Third – Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and give your testimony.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph. 2:8-9)

The Catholic Mass

It is a spectacle of gorgeous magnificence lights, colors, vestments, music, incense, and what has a strange psychological effect. A number of drilled priests performing a stately ritual in entire independence of worshippers. These are indeed spectators, not participants. The mechanical performance made by the priest during the mass is as follows: He makes the sign of the cross sixteen times, turns toward the congregation six times, lifts his hands four times strikes his breast ten times, bows his head twenty-one times, genuflects eight times, bows his shoulders seven times, blesses the altar with the sign of the cross thirty times, lays his hands flat on the altar twenty-nine times, prays secretly eleven times, prays aloud thirteen times, lays his hands flat on the altar twenty-nine times, prays secretly eleven times, prays aloud thirteen times, takes the bread and wine and turns it in to the body and blood of Christ, covers and uncovers the chalice ten times, goes to and fro twenty times. Adding to this complicated ritualism is the use of highly colored robes, candles, bells, incense, music and the showy pageantry for which Romanism is known and the unsaved world loves. What a contrast to the simple memorial supper instituted by Christ.
