Christ: Our Sweet Savior

“...and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord” - (Lev.1:9).

“Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury” - (Jn.19:40).

“And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour” - (Eph.5:2).

Jesus gave himself for us an offering and sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor. What a beautiful way to describe what Christ did for us on the cross. If you take the ‘I’ out of Sav-i-or, you have ‘savor’ - yes - Christ is our Sweet Savior. Jesus is the Lamb without blemish and without spot: the sinless, spotless Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. He’s a perfect offering and what a sweet smelling savor He is in the nostrils of His Father. All the millions of sweet smelling sacrifices in the O.T. for hundreds of years, are summed up and  fulfilled in the sweet smelling sacrifice of Christ on the cross. The sacrifice Christ gratified and pleased His Father and three times His heavenly Father testified of Him - “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” How sweet He is: how much loved and dear He is to His Father and to us who are saved. We are His bride and He is our sweetheart.

The sweet savor was a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, and when we’re saved by Christ, we are saved from hell: The fiery wrath of God has fallen upon the sweet Savior, and not on us. “...as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”

The dead body of Christ was wrapped in sweet spices when He laid in the tomb for three full days in order to counter the stench of a dead body. Now man can conquer his death and the stink of our own rotten, stinking corpse through Christ our Sweet Savior. Man can resurrect from death with a new eternal body - “who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body” - (Phil.3:21). God sent His dear Son down to earth to solve man’s greatest problem, sin and the punishment of sin which is death. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” - (Rom.6:23).

Lazarus lay in his grave four days and his sister Martha said unto Jesus - “...Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days” - (Jn.11:39). Jesus said - “...Lazarus, come forth, and he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes...” - (Jn.11:43,44). Christ, the Sweet Savior, changed Lazarus’s stinking body of death into life. Don’t have your dead body wrapped in sweet spices, repent of your sins and be saved by the Sweet Savior.

The wisemen came from the east to see the child Jesus, the king of the Jews, and presented Him gifts and worshipped Him. Two of the three gifts were myrrh and frankincense, sweet spices for the Sweet Savior and King of Glory who died for us. And wisemen ever since have been saved by Christ. “...Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God” - (I Cor.1:24). Christ, the wisest of all wisemen.

Myrrh is six times in the Song of Solomon, a love song to our well beloved Sweet Savior. “A bundle of myrrh is my well beloved unto me...” - (S.of Sol.1:13). Christ, our bundle of myrrh, loved us and gave Himself for us as the sweet-smelling Savior on the cross so that we could conquer our stinking death.

Christ was a human censer, if you will, and we who are saved by Him are also a sweet savor of Christ, both to the saved and the lost. “For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish. To the one we are the savour of death unto death: and to the other the savour of life unto life...” - (2 Cor.2:15,16). We preach the gospel of Christ, indwelt by the Holy Spirit, which is an odor of life to all that believe, but an odor of death to all that won’t get saved.

You can conquer your odor of death and have eternal life. Receive the Sweet Savior and He’ll turn your stinking death into sweet smelling eternal life. When God smells you, what do you smell like? Are you saved and born again? Are you a sweet smelling savor to God? If not, repent of your sins and believe on Christ in your heart by faith and you will receive forgiveness of sins and be saved from hell, and become a new born again creature in Christ having eternal life. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” - (2 Cor.5:17). Jesus said - “...Ye must be born again” - (Jn.3:7). Born again describes what happens to you when you’re truly saved. A radical change takes place in your life as the Holy Spirit indwells you, and your feet walk in new holy paths. The old man dies with Christ on the cross spiritually, and a new holy man is born.

Conquer your stinking death through the Sweet Savior.
