Christ: The Rod of all Power
“Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron” – (Ps.2:9).
“The Lord shall send the rod of
thy strength out of
“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots… and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he stay the wicked” – (Is.11:1,4).
“And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron…” – (Rev.12:5).
“And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron… And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS” – (Rev.19:15,16).
When the Lord Jesus returns to defeat the armies of the Beast at Armageddon, He will rule over the earth with a rod of iron in righteousness. He will be both the civil ruler and the religious ruler, the two great powers on earth, and He will rule forever and ever and we saints shall help Him rule – (Rev.2:27).
In that day the Word of Christ will be the law of the entire earth – (Is.2:3) and it will be enforced with a rod of iron in absolute righteousness. Justice will reign inflexibly. There will be no corruption, no officials that take bribes, no tricky lawyers that turn the law backwards, no judges who confuse pity with justice, no authorities that are on the side of evil. Saints rather than sinners will sit on the throne of judgment. The earth will be ruled by ‘righteous’ kings.
The rule by the rod of iron means that unrighteousness will be punished swiftly. (Eccl.8:11) says, “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” It will not be so when Emperor Jesus Christ rules. Crimes will be punished immediately as in the days of Moses and Joshua. This rule by the rod of iron is described in Christ’s Sermon on the Mount in (Mt.5-7).
Christ’s throne on earth will be a government of peace and justice and righteousness – (Is.9:7). It will be righteous rule by a ‘strong man’ who yields a sceptre of iron. “But unto the Son he saith, thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom” – (Heb.1:8). Christ will rule by the strength of His righteous character against all evil.
The first two rods of power in the Bible show the rule of Christ on earth as both king and high priest – both civil and religious rule. Both Moses, the civil ruler, and Aaron, the religious ruler, ruled with rods of power and God’s authority. Their rods were called the ‘rods of God.’ “And Moses took the rod of God in his hand” – (Ex.4:20). Again – “Say unto Aaron, take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand…” – (Ex.7:19). And these two powers, political and religious, are still the powers on earth today that rule over the bodies and souls of men. (And we shall see it soon with the two beasts, Antichrist and his False Prophet).
And God chose two brothers (Moses and Aaron) to be rulers because they loved each other and would not harm one another. And so it is with the spiritual kinship in the N.T. church among the brethren, those who are born again into the family of God through His beloved Son, they love one another. Many times in the N.T. “brethren” is used to designate all the Christians, both male and female. And we ‘brethren’ shall rule and reign with King Jesus as kings and priests as the two brethren, Moses and Aaron did – “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth” – (Rev.5:10). All the born again saints of God shall have both rods of authority.
In (Num.16) there was the rebellion of Korah and his followers against the authority of Moses and Aaron, God’s chosen leaders. And in (chap.17) God confirms the priesthood of Aaron and establishes the fact that he is God’s high priest. God shows it by Aaron’s rod of authority miraculously resurrecting from death.
God has the prince of each of the twelve tribes bring a rod. These rods were dead branches of trees and were placed before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness. Aaron’s rod was there among the others, and his rod was just as dead as the others. “And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness: and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds” – (Num.17:8).
God is showing us life out of death. Aaron’s priesthood was confirmed by resurrection. Aaron’s dead wooden rod brought forth buds, blossom and fruit all at the same time. It was a great miracle of resurrection. The perfect illustration of the resurrection of Christ and his being chosen by God to have the rod of all power, is Aaron’s rod that budded, bloomed and yielded almonds.
and death started in the Garden of Eden by Adam and Eve eating of the fruit of
the unlawful ‘tree.’ And so Jesus Christ atoned for believer’s sins on the
The Lord Jesus was raised from the dead and became our high priest forever. He has an unchangeable priesthood because He never dies again, and so – “he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” – (Heb.7:25). By virtue of Christ’s death on the tree and His resurrection, He now has the rod of all power – “…All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” – (Mt.28:18).
Christ has all power, both the rod of king and high priest, and so is called “The BRANCH.” He is both the king branch of power and the religious branch of power – “…Behold the man whose name is the BRANCH… and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne…” – (Zech.6:12,13). Yes, Christ is the rod of all power. He will be the ‘ramrod’ ruling over the whole earth as king and priest. Out here in cowboy AZ, we call the one in authority, the ramrod. Christ came the first time to die as a ram on the cross for the sins of the world and He’s coming back as the rod of all authority, the ‘ramrod’ – amen. And it was written on His tree-cross by the king – “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS” – (Mt.27:37). But not only King of the Jews, but King of the world – amen.
Almonds were the miracle fruit of Aaron’s rod of power that budded and
bloomed. And when God called Jeremiah to be a prophet, Jeremiah said – “I see a rod of an almond tree” – (Jer.1:11). Jeremiah was a seer,
he had foresight to ‘see’ into the future – he was almond-eyed – amen. And
God instructed Moses to build a golden candlestick for the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness. It had the appearance of a golden six-branched almond tree with fruit in three stages – “Bowls made like unto almonds with a knop and a flower” – (Ex.25:33). The knop is an ornamental knob and shaped like a bud. And so the candlestick had buds (knops) blossoms (flowers) and almonds. And Aaron the high priest would be the one to light the candlestick – (Num.8:2).
The light of the candlestick typified the Holy Spirit light of Christ and His church who are the spiritual lights of the world. It was the Lord Jesus who gave me the Holy Spirit light for this sermon – He enlightened my almond eyes – amen. And so we are God’s tabernacle of witness preaching Christ and the resurrection unto eternal life to all that will receive Him as Savior. Christ, with His rod of power, shall speak one day soon, and Christians shall rapture up out of their graves like Lazarus – now that’s power. “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that beleiveth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” – (Jn.11:25). “That was the true light which lighteth every man that cometh into the world” – (Jn.1:9). First a believer is given born again spiritual life and then physical life from the dead.
Are you saved from your sins and hell and born again? If not, repent of your sins and believe on Christ in your heart by faith and you will receive forgiveness of sins and become a new born again creature in Christ. You can become a child of God, a part of the family of God, included in God’s family tree, if you’re washed in the blood of God’s Son on the tree-cross. God loves you and gave His dear Son for you so you could conquer death and hell and have eternal life. “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him” – (I Jn.4:9). Only Jesus Christ has the power to forgive your sins and resurrect you from death unto everlasting life. O do not spurn God’s grace in His dear Son on the cross, or the wrath of God abides upon you.
Die spiritually with Christ on the cross and be born again of God’s Holy Spirit.
