Christ the Rock of Salvation

The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation” – (2 Sam.22:47).

“Then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the rock of his salvation” – (Du.32:15).

“O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation” – (Ps.89:26).

“To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious. Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner. And a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: where unto also they were appointed” – (I Pet. 2:4-8).

   The Lord Jesus is the Rock of our salvation, if we’re truly saved. For then He is our strength, immutable, immovable and an impenetrable shelter and an everlasting foundation. The Lord is called our rock six times in (Du.32) as Moses sings his Rock song praising his Lord. Now we have satanic rock songs praising Satan and corrupting people worldwide. If these rock and rollers don’t get saved the only rock they’ll get from Satan is the fiery brimstone of hell. It is written in (Ps.94:22) “But the Lord is my defense; and my God is the rock of my refuge” – (Ps.94:22 and Heb.6:18).

   But not only is the Lord Jesus our rock of strength and refuge, He is also a precious stone, for all precious stones are rocks except coral, amber and pearls. Hear what Peter tells us about Christ, the rock of our salvation. In (I Pet.2:4-8) Christ is called a ‘living’ stone, chosen of God and precious – Christ himself is the ‘living stone.’ He’s the spiritual rock that has eternal life, He liveth and abideth forever, for even the mountains wear away and shall pass away.

Granite may crumble

But Christ is the “living stone”.

   Jesus said, “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore. Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death” – (Rev.1:18). Yes, Christ is the ‘living stone’ and the most precious stone in the universe because He’s chosen of God to be our Savior, without whom we would all go to hell. This most precious stone is the Son of God and God’s free gift to men. “A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it…” – (Prov.17:8). Are you saved? Have you received this precious stone as your Savior? Christ is our high priest who sacrificed Himself and shed His precious blood on Calvary for atonement of sins. He has the breastplate of righteousness with the twelve precious stones and He is the righteousness of God – “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth” – (Rom.10:4). “Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek” – (Heb.6:20). Christ the precious stone who shed His precious blood for our salvation. He is of more value than all the precious stones of this world – He’s priceless.

   Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of His spiritual temple -the church. He’s the cornerstone that anchors His church. From him, all lines and measurements radiate. He is the keystone of the church and without Him we would not have a living church. God is no longer building a temple made with wood and stone, He is building a temple not made with hands, made of saved, sanctified, saints of flesh and bone – “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house…” – (I Pet.2:5). We who are saved by Christ and born again of the Holy Spirit are also ‘living stones’ in God’s temple. We have eternal life in Christ. When we come to Christ, the precious cornerstone, and are saved by Him, we also become ‘living stones’ in God’s spiritual temple. Yes, God the Father is still building His temple today, a living temple and it’s being built on His precious Son. Each saint is placed where he belongs by the Master builder himself and we become priests of God witnessing of the Word. Yes, Christ the Rock of our Salvation. Are you saved and secure and safe in that Rock? Do you have eternal security?

   When Zerubbabel returned from 70 yrs. captivity in Babylon to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem, Zechariah prophesied of Christ, the cornerstone of the church built by God’s grace – “… and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it” – (Zech.4:7). Each of us are living stones saved by grace.

   But Christ is only precious to those who are saved by Him. But to the disobedient, unsaved, He is a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense because they stumble over the Word of God and reject Christ. Jesus Christ is either a stepping stone to glory or a stumbling stone to hell. When the Word of God’s gospel is preached the unbelievers reject salvation by grace through faith in Christ. So the Rock of salvation becomes instead, a stone lying in their path and a rock of offense. They are offended at Christ and His Word.

   When Christ returns, He will fall upon unbelievers as a mighty stone or rock in His wrath. “Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder” – (Mt.21:42,44). When you come as a brokenhearted sinner and fall on that stone you are saved. And that stone becomes your salvation and your cornerstone and you are placed as a living stone in His temple with eternal life. However, if you reject that stone, you are not through with the stone. Daniel, in his vision, saw a ‘stone’ cut out of a mountain without hands, which smote the image on his feet – (Dan.2:34). This stone symbolizes Christ who will return as the stone of judgment and smite the earth and all unbelievers – the smiting stone – amen.

   God wrote His laws in tables of stone and gave them to Moses on Mt. Sinai and when we break God’s laws we sin. And when capital punishment was to be administered it was by ‘stoning.’ God’s mercy and grace is given to us through God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Rock of our salvation and the precious Cornerstone. When we’re saved from our sins by Christ, we conquer our death, both the death of the body and the second death in the lake of fire. The unyielding stone of God’s laws against us is washed clean by the blood of Christ – the stone of grace – God’s love in His Son. When we’re saved we have the imputed righteousness of Christ that makes void the laws that we broke. That as the stone tablets of sin have reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord – the Rock of our salvation and precious living Cornerstone.

   But if you reject Christ, then you too will be stoned in hell for your sins – fire and ‘brimstone.’ It is written of all Christ-rejecting, unbelieving sinners, “… shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” – (Rev.21:8) – stoned to eternal death – amen. God’s Word calls the stone tables of the law – “The administration of death, written and engraved in stones” – (2 Cor.3:7). When Moses came down from the mount the first time he found the people sinning and breaking the first commandment written on his stone tablet, they made themselves a gold calf and committed idolatry. And because they broke God’s law, Moses broke the tables of the law and he went up the mountain a second time. God gave the law the second time, but this time He tempered it with mercy and grace, recognizing the fact that the people would not keep the law.

   With the second giving of the law, God gave a system of sacrifices through which the repentant lawbreaker – sinner could find atonement for sin – this typified Christ – the perfect, supreme sacrifice on Calvary. It was still God’s law, but it was now tempered by grace. It meant so much to Moses with his thoughts of grace and pardon for Israel’s sins, he came down the mount with a shining face. Hear God’s words to Moses on Mt. Sinai the second time – “And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in goodness and truth. Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin…” – (Ex.34:6,7). This second time showed us Christ – the Rock of our salvation and the grace of God forgiving sin. Jesus Christ, the precious cornerstone of God’s temple – the stone of God’s mercy and grace.

   Have you received Jesus Christ as your Savior? Are you saved and born again by the Holy Spirit? If you’re not born again, you’re not truly saved. Born again describes what happens to you when you’re truly saved. You become a new creature in Christ. Have Christ be your gravestone – the Rock of your salvation and conquer death – For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord’ – (Rom.6:23). Repent of your sins and believe in your heart on the Lord Jesus by faith and you will have forgiveness of sins. You will be saved from your sins and the second death in the lake of fire. Receive God’s love and grace in His dear Son on the cross. Do not reject this most precious stone, the cornerstone of God’s spiritual temple, the spiritual Church of God. Become a living stone with eternal life.

   When you’re truly saved, then you will quit the satanic rock songs and getting stoned and sing this beautiful song in truth.

The Solid Rock

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;

When darkness seems to hide his face, I rest on his unchanging grace;

His oath, His covenant, His blood, support me in the whelming flood;

When He shall come with trumpet sound, Oh, may I then in him be found;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

In every high and stormy gale, My anchor holds within the vale.

When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.

Dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne.

Refrain

On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.
