The Raven and the Dove

"And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground: But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more" - (Gen.8:6-12).

When God brought the flood upon this wicked earth, and saved Noah's righteous family of eight people in the ark, and the waters started to decrease, Noah sent two birds out of the ark - the raven and the dove. These two birds stand for the two natures of man. The black raven stands for the natural man and his natural body whose heart is desperately wicked "the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?" - (Jer.17:9). And the dove stands for the spiritual man who has been saved by Christ and is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, having the divine nature - (2 Pet.1:4). The black raven is sin and blackness and death, and the white dove is sins forgiven and light and life. The Raven is an unclean, ravenous killer bird, and the dove is a clean, gentle bird that never resists attack or retaliates. The raven is Satan's bird and the evil spirit, and the dove is God's bird and a symbol of the Holy Spirit. (Mt.3:16,17). They show our old unclean nature, and a new clean nature when we're born again by the Holy Spirit.- "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" - (2 Cor.5:17). The raven feed on death, and the dove mourns over death and points to Christ who conquers death. Yes, two different birds with two different natures.

The dove was a homing pigeon, that not only found his way back to the ark twice, but brought back a message in his mouth like a carrier pigeon. The dove and the pigeon is the same bird. Throughout man's history man has used the pigeon to carry messages, even in wartime. And the greatest message God ever gave to man was when - "...the Spirit of God descended like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." - (Mt.3:16,17). Have you received the message from the Father? Noah's dove was to him a more faithful messenger than the raven.

The message was the olive leaf that points to the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the Anointed One, the Lord Jesus Christ. "But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things" - (I Jn.2:20). The Holy Spirit in us gives us light and discernment as the olive oil gave light to the candlestick in the temple because we are now the temple of God. And that's why when Jesus was being baptized by John in the River Jordan, the Holy Spirit like a dove 'lighted' upon Him. God was showing us that the Lord Jesus is the anointed One, the Christ, the Son of God. Christ is the ark of salvation and the bloody sacrifice for sins on the mercy seat of the ark, and the giver of the Holy Spirit within us. Black and white, darkness and light. "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil" - (Jn.3:19). All the human ravens were drowned in Noah's day and only 8 human doves were saved in the ark, which shows you the wickedness of that day.

The Bible uses the word "ravenous" to describe all the birds and beasts of prey (Is.35:9 - 46:11). And man, the two-legged beast, is the most ravenous of all. And the most ravenous man in history is the Antichrist-Beast - Mr.666. He is described as - "...having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of  lion, and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them" - (Rev.13:1,2,7). Here we see the raven of Satan murdering the dove-saints of God during the Great Tribulation. The dove-saints refuse to worship the Beast or his image or get his mark 666, and the ravenous Beast comes against them and devours them. He comes against them as a ravenous leopard, lion, and a bear, having the power of Satan. Then comes the end of the world again, a fiery Armageddon instead of water. As the Negro spiritual says...

God gave Noah the rainbow sign,

No more water, the fire next time.

As Christ is the dove man, so Antichrist is the raven man. Will the raven man be half black and half white to more easily deceive? Has he already been released? His dark wings hovering over the world will entrap all the unsaved ravens of the world into worshipping him. Crows are members of the raven family and point directly to our Jim Crow laws. Jim 'Crow' stands for the stereotype black man and the ethnic discrimination against blacks by legal enforcement. Yes, Antichrist the raven man will kill the dove-saints soon during the Great Tribulation, because that's his nature.

I think about Elijah, one of God's great doves, who was hounded by Ahab the raven during the 3 1/2 years of no rain. Elijah fought only with spiritual weapons and he prevailed. God sent Elijah to the brook Cherith for his water, and commanded the ravens to be Elijah's caterers who fed him bread and flesh twice a day. God has absolute command of all His creatures, be it sparrows or ravens. But why ravens? Birds of prey, unclean, ravenous, devouring creatures, more likely to steal his meat, and eat his flesh if Elijah should die. But then again Samson's riddle becomes unriddled "out of the eater comes forth meat," and so the dead lion fed Samson honey.

Elijah, one of God's great doves, had a very singular miracle when God fed him by ravens. And during the Great Tribulation, God feeds the persecuted dove-saints in the wilderness for the same period of 3 1/2 years. "And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God (like Elijah) that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days" - (Rev.12:6). As God preserved Elijah when he had to flee from Ahab after prophesying a drought, so God will preserve some of His saints in the wilderness, both Jews and Gentiles during the Tribulation. Food and water will be provided by God. Maybe Elijah loved the birds and fed them, and here God rewards him by the birds feeding him. I feed my doves every day, and sometimes I fed Ravens, and now they have fed me truth from God's Word about ravens and doves.

Edgar Allen Poe typifies the raven more than any other. His poem ‘The Raven’ is probably the best known poem ever written. Poe had an unstable mind and erratic behavior. His stories and poetry show intense preoccupation with the morbid, weird and bizarre, and concerned with death. When he was 27, he married his 13 year old cousin. It is said that his mind was filled with nightmares tinged with madness. He died at 40 years of age in 1849 - he died a raven not a dove. He died a child of darkness, a raven, not a child of light, a dove. "For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Loud: walk as children of light" - (Eph.5:8). Doe's raven was named 'Nevermore' and when you die as an unclean raven, you will nevermore have the chance to be saved and become a clean dove.

The Lord Jesus taught us about religious hypocrites who pretended to be clean doves outwardly, but inwardly were unclean ravens. "And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed before dinner. And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter: but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness" - (Lk.11:38,39). The Pharisees criticized Jesus because He didn't wash before dinner. The Pharisees were careful to keep up a good outward show, but had hearts like wicked ravens. They were like a dish that was carefully cleaned on the outside, but extremely filthy on the inside. "...for the Lord seeth not as man seeth: for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh upon the heart" - (I Sam.16:7). Millions of so-called Christians are religious outwardly, with outward baptism of water, but have never been saved and born again and baptized inwardly and indwelt by the Holy Spirit. They are unconverted, lost church members. They wash their bodies outwardly with dove soap and water, but do not wash their ravenous hearts from their wicked sins inwardly. The Lord Jesus here plainly shows us the unsaved, unclean ravens who fly near the water, but never come to Jesus, who is the ark, to be saved.

The dove - saints come back with emperor Jesus as a part of His heavenly army to defeat the ravenous Beast and his armies at Armageddon - (Rev.19:11-21), and the ravenous birds eat their corpses. O the marvelous justice of God. The humble, harmless doves of Christ defeat the ravens of Satan at the end. The meek shall inherit the earth. Yes, God has shown us the raven and the dove, and the two natures of man, when He destroyed the earth the first time for their wickedness, and He prophesies that He will destroy the earth again with fire at Christ's second coming - (2 Pet.3:5-10). Then the millennium begins and God changes the nature of the ravenous creatures - "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion... and a little child shall lead them" - (Is.11:6), and that goes for the birds of prey also. I won't have to watch the hawk come into my yard and kill the doves. God will change their natures as He will change ours - "...and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more" - (Is.2:4).

What kind of bird are you? A raven or a dove? Are you washed white and clean like a dove in the blood of Christ? Have you been changed inwardly from a raven to a dove by being made a partaker of the divine nature by the Holy Spirit? Are you saved and born again? If not, repent of your sins, and believe in Christ in your heart by faith, and you will receive forgiveness of sins, and be saved from hell, and become a new born again creature in Christ having eternal life. "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever" - (I Pet.1:23). "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" - (Jn.3:16). Receive the olive oil of the Holy Spirit in the mouth of the dove, and be a partaker of the divine nature. Be changed from a raven to a dove by Christ. You must have a different, holy nature like Paul who ravened against the dove-saints, persecuting and killing them, before he was born again of the Holy Spirit and had his nature changed to a dove.

Hear the Two Natures of Man

The raven nature - "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world... the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others" - (Eph.2:1-3).

The dove nature - "whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is the world through lust" - (2 Pet.1:4).
