The Rainbow – The Arc of God’s Covenant

“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth… But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. And behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and everything that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark…” – (Gen.6:5,7,8,17,18). And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled a sweet savor, and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease” – (Gen.8:20-22).

“And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood… And God said, this is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you… for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud. And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, this is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth” – (Gen.9:11-17).

“And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone; and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald” – (Rev.4:3).

The rainbow is an arc of brilliant colors that appears in the sky when the sun shines after a rain storm. Rainbows are formed by raindrops acting as tiny prisms and mirrors to break up sunlight into colors of the spectrum and send colored light back to our eyes. Sunlight is a combination of the seven colors of the rainbow – violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. The rainbow is the colors of God’s sunlight.

Long before God established His ark of the covenant with one nation, Israel, He established His ark of the covenant with one man, Noah. I want you to picture Noah and his ark on Mt. Ararat after the worst storm ever on planet earth. Picture Noah outside the ark and an altar with burnt offering on it and a beautiful rainbow stretched across the heavens with the ends seemingly on the earth. Not only do we see an ‘ark’ of God’s covenant, also see the ‘arc’ of God’s covenant overhead. After the storm came the rainbows as always.

The rainbow was the token or sign of the covenant that God made with every man since for ‘perpetual generations.’ It was God’s signature and ratification of His covenant and promise that He had made with man. And the covenant rested upon God’s grace based on shed blood. “But Noah found grace in the eyes of he Lord” – (Gen.6:8). Grace is found here for the first time and it was God’s grace that saved Noah from a watery grave. It is always a small remnant that finds grace in God’s sight and walks with Him and conquers death.

The ark which was built by Noah in which he and his house were saved from the storm of God’s wrath, is one of the clearest types of a believer’s salvation in Christ which is found in all the scriptures. Jesus Christ is God’s ark of salvation to every believer who is saved by grace like Noah. There are three arks mentioned in scripture and each of them was for salvation. The ark of Noah saved those within it from death and the outpoured wrath of God upon sinners. The ark of bulrushes that saved the baby Moses from death by Pharaoh. And the ark of the covenant of Israel on the Day of Atonement that saved them from their sins for another year because of the blood of the sacrifice poured on the ark’s mercy seat.

Each ark speaks of Christ and God’s salvation by grace in Him alone. The ark was the place of salvation when death threatened. It was the only place of deliverance from the wrath to come. “Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” – (Acts 4:12). Into Noah’s ark man was invited to come by God himself – “And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark”- (Gen.7:1). This is the first time the word ‘come’ is found in the scriptures. The Lord does not say ‘go into the ark,’ but ‘come.’ ‘Go’ would have been a command, ‘come’ was a gracious invitation. That’s what the gospel of Christ is – “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house” – (Acts 16:11). “And the Spirit and the bride say, come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is a thirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely” – (Rev.22:10).

The great tribulation storm of God’s wrath is soon to come when God’s wrath and righteous judgment will fall upon this world like in the days of Noah – (Mt.24:37-39). Many times in the book of Revelation we read of thunder and lightning as God’s wrath is poured out upon sinful man. God pours out the vials of His wrath as the Divine scientist and Creator that He is – (Rev.15 and 16). In (Rev.4) we see the rainbow round the throne of God in Heaven which signifies the grace of God and God looks upon it always and remembers the arc of His covenant to man. “And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald” – (Rev.4:3). It’s a green rainbow because God’s grace in Christ is the green of eternal life and salvation from death – “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” – (Rom.6:23). And we also see the stormy wrath of God coming out of His throne as well – “And out of the throne proceeded lightning and thunders and voices…” – (Rev.4:5). The rainbow is God’s light of mercy and lightning is God’s light of wrath.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world and that’s exactly what a rainbow is – God’s Sonlight. “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever beliveth on me should not abide in darkness” – (Jn.12:46). God’s true science has shown us that the colors which everywhere clothe the face of nature, the flowers, grass, sky, birds, etc, are but the manifold beauty of the light itself. The pure ray of light, which to us is colorless, is but the harmonious blending of all possible colors. Thus God’s light paints all of nature and its beauty comes out in partial displays where it is broken up for us and made perceptible in the rainbow. In the rainbow the whole array of God’s lights of colors manifest itself, the sun’s rays reflecting themselves in the storm’s rainy end. And I believe that only to Noah was the full display of the whole prism of glory shown in the blackest storm of judgment that ever was.

As the rainbow is the joint product of storm and sunshine, so grace is the unmerited favor of God’s Son-light appearing on the dark background of man’s sin. As the rainbow is the effect of the sun shining on the drops of rain in a rain cloud, so Divine grace is manifested by God’s love that knows nothing more beautiful than the rainbow. And so the universe knows nothing that equals in lovliness the wonderful grace of God in His Son. As the rainbow is the union of heaven and earth arcing across the sky and racing down to earth, so grace is the mediator Christ that has brought together God and men. As the rainbow is a public sign of God hung out in the heavens that all may see it, so “the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men” – (Titus 2:11). God’s rainbow is the colors of God’s light shown to us in the grace of God in His Son who only can save us from the wrath of God upon us because of our sins.

God’s rainbow is the token and arc of God’s covenant to every person on earth, of all nations and kindreds and people, and tongues and colors. God’s amazing grace and light in His beloved Son on the cross is available to everyone, both Jew and Gentile – all the colors of the rainbow. Christ is God’s rainbow light to all people of every color who can be saved from the wrath of God through Him.

Did you ever wonder why, the rainbow arcs the sky?

God’s rainbow is a kaleidoscope view, ever changing colors in heaven and earth too.

See that prism arc after the rains came,

Well God made people on His earth the same.

If God’s peace after the rain is no comfort to you,

Then the kaleidoscope of people God put on earth are out of view too.

Red, yellow, black and white,

We are all precious in God’s sight.

Red, yellow, black and white – God loves all of you.

We are all God’s rainbow here on earth,

A prism of color from birth.

Just as a rainbow without color would not be a pleasing view,

Is why God made us all on earth in living color true.

So now consider this paradox when God’s rainbow you view.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life” – (Jn.3:16). The rainbow is the visible proof of God’s love to man in His beloved Son.

The homosexual rainbow flag flaunting the abominable sin of Sodomy in the face of a holy, righteous God, shows the end of the world soon, not by water but by fire this time – “But the same day that Lot went to of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all” – (Lk.17:28).

God gave Noah the rainbow sign

No more water, the fire next time.

As it is written – “Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished. But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up” – (2 Pet.3:7,10).

(Rev.10:1) says – “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.” An angelic minister of God representing the Lord Jesus with a rainbow crown on his head and his face like the sun and his feet like pillars of fire. The rainbow emphasizes the grace and mercy of God during the great tribulation. Though severe judgments come upon the earth, God still remembers His rainbow sign of grace and mercy. During this time of God’s wrath, a great multitude will get saved and washed in the blood of the Lamb- (Rev.7:14). Even though His fiery feet burn the earth – “In wrath he remembers mercy.” His face like the sun shows He is God’s Sonlight and the essence and source of the rainbow of grace and the light of the world.

Are you saved by God’s grace in His Son? Have you received Christ’s light of love and repented of your sins? Repent of your sins and find grace in the eyes of the Lord by believing on Christ in your heart by faith. “For by grave are you saved through faith…” – (Eph.2:8). Be saved and raptured and translated up like Enoch before the wrath of God falls. Be saved and born again and go to heaven – somewhere over the rainbow. Inherit eternal life which is the true pot of gold and walk on streets of gold. Be saved from God’s wrath by Christ – “Much more then, being justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him” – (Rom.5:9).

PTL for the rainbow of mercy and grace – PTL for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Be saved in the ark of Christ – conquer death and receive eternal life.

P.S. - It is written of Antichrist in (Rev.6:2) “… He that sat on him had a bow…” Antichrist rides on a white horse and begins the great tribulation as a counterfeit of Christ’s second coming on a white horse – (Rev.19:11). Antichrist clearly could have a bow or rainbow as one of his logos in order to counterfeit God’s rainbow throne. The black political organization of Jesse Jackson is called Rainbow Push in Chicago. PUSH stands for ‘People united to save humanity’ – (Only Jesus Christ can save humanity). Jackson ran for president twice in 1984 and 1988.

Our 50th state of Hawaii is known as the rainbow state because of the frequency with which brilliant rainbows appear. Hawaii’s moisture and sunshine combine in just the right combination to produce rainbows. It is also symbolic of the various nationalities who have come to Hawaii. Hawaii is a true melting pot of the U.S.

Sen. Barrack Obama was born and raised in Hawaii. He recently brought his presidential bid to the annual Rainbow PUSH conference. Obama’s father was from Kenya. Kenya’s ruling political party is the National Rainbow Coalition Party. Here are three quotes about Obama – “The rainbow is the only way he can win,” “Obama’s envisioned world of rainbow unity,” “Obama seemed the political equivalent of a rainbow, a sudden preternatural event inspiring awe and ecstasy.” Are you watching saints of God? Keep the faith.
