Christ and Antichrist: Shown by Their Treatment of Prisoners

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound” – (Is.61:1 & Luke 4:18,19).

That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?” – (Is.14:17).

In this sermon we’ll deal with the subject of prisoners in order to distinguish between Christ and Antichrist. This subject is in the news daily and yet is totally neglected by the church. We need this light to shine in our hearts and so have more discernment in these end times.

Christ is the great Emancipator and Redeemer who gives liberty to all true believers when they’re saved from their sins by Him. This verse in (Is.61:1) is the true Emancipation Proclamation that Lincoln knew nothing about. The gospel of Christ is the gospel of freedom from sins. Jesus Christ takes our soul out of prison. “Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name…” – (Ps.142:7). “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” – (Jn.8:32,38). When we’re born again in Christ, we are free born. And again – “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, and have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life” – (Rom.6:22).

Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross on the day of Passover to redeem us and free us from the bondage of our sins. Passover was the festival of freedom, when the Jewish captives were freed from Egyptian bondage by the blood of the Passover Lamb. “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things… but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” – (I Pet.1:18,19). Christ died as a tortured prisoner so we could be set free from our sins.

The gospel of Christ is the Emancipation Proclamation to all people that are captives of their sins. Sin is the transgression of God’s laws and all are sinners bound over to the justice of God. We are His lawful captives till payment is made of that great debt. Christ’s blood on the cross has made satisfaction to divine justice for the breaking of God’s laws. By faith in Christ and according to God’s grace, we are pardoned and set free from the captivity of our sins. There is no longer condemnation for us. By the dominion of sin, we are bound under the power of Satan, sold under sin. But Christ has conquered Satan and destroyed him that had the power of death because of sin. Only Christ has the power to free us from the bondage of our sins. He’s the blowing of the Jubilee trumpet who gives us liberty and the opening of prison in our soul to us who are bound in our sins. And the opening of Hell prison.

Sinners are the Devil’s captives, caught in his snare and he hates it when his captives are freed by Christ. It is written in (2 Tim.2:25,26) of the happiness of sinners that repent and get saved. They recover themselves out of the Devil’s snare and those who before were led captive by the Devil are now led by Christ into the glorious liberty of the children of God. The devil will never free his prisoners willingly, only when he is forced to by Christ. “And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will” – (2 Tim.2:26).

“To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house” – (Is.42:7). Pardoning mercy is a release from the curse of the law and grace is a release from the dominion of sin. Both are from Christ and are branches of His great salvation. Because Christ has saved us from the captivity of our sins, we love Him and willingly become His servants. And so it is written – “He led captivity captive” – (Eph.4:8). And so Paul could say that he was the ‘prisoner of the Lord’ when he was cast into prison for preaching the gospel of Christ.

God takes mercy on the prisoners of sin – “Let the sighing of the prisoners come before thee” – (Ps.79:11). Again – “For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the Lord behold the earth; to hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death” – (Ps.102:19,20). And again – “For the Lord heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners” – (Ps.69:33). And again – “The Lord looseth the prisoners” – (Ps.146:7). I believe God also in His great mercy sent His Son to preach the gospel of freedom to the souls of the prisoners in hell – to those gentiles that had not the light of the Jews and the blood atonement for sins in the Old Testament. He descended into hell (Eph.4:8,9) “But that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth.” And – “By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison” – (I Pet.3:19). And so we visit those that are in prison and preach the gospel of freedom and some get saved – (Mt.25:36).

In contrast to Christ who loves prisoners and proclaims liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are bound – we have Antichrist who hates prisoners and will not free them. It is written of the king of Babylon, Satan’s Antichrist – “that opened not the house of his prisoners” – (Is.14:17). It is the merciless character of this Satan – possessed man, to show no mercy to his prisoners by releasing and freeing them, yea he tortures them in prison, especially God’s saints who refuse to worship him.

President Bush has conquered Old Babylon-Iraq and has thousands of prisoners in prison there. He also has his C.I.A. running many secret prisons worldwide. These prisoners have never had a trial and don’t even know why they are imprisoned. These prisoners are tortured by sleep deprivation, isolation, water boarding, noise pain, freezing and water hosing, degradation, and many other forms of torture. Make no mistake about it, the U.S. is engaged in the torture of prisoners. Now President Bush is attempting to weaken provisions of the Geneva Conventions that prevents nations from using these in humane treatments of POW’s. It is cruel enough to be thrown into prison without benefit of a trial, let alone to be tortured there. The U.S. is turning from a republic to an empire and committing all the evils of the lust of an empire. We are becoming wicked and antichrist like the King of Babylon and refusing to release the prisoners of our conquest of Babylon-Iraq.

The congress has just capitulated to President Bush and passed the ‘Military Commissions Act” approving indefinite imprisonment without charge, legalization of torture and denial of habeas corpus, which provides crucial protection to people who are wrongly imprisoned. The U.S. has been torturing prisoners for many years but it is now an act of national policy, endorsed and approved by congress after open, public debate. Torture is now legal in the U.S., but only for the president. We have found out what we are made of as a nation, down deep in our soul… We are evil. Concentration camps are places where people are imprisoned and killed without legal proceedings. President Bush has admitted to building concentration camps for years and imprisoning thousands of people without legal proceedings and killing some. Congress has now paved the way for an imperial dictatorship.

Christ, as a prisoner, suffered torture at the hands of the imperial power of Rome. There have been few methods of execution more torturous or more excruciatingly painful than crucifixion – and the Roman Empire mastered it. Our president is seizing U.S. citizens without due process of law and imprisoning them in secret C.I.A. prisons already.

The war on terror brought about by the attack of 9/11 has been the excuse to invade two countries and killing many thousands of people and has seen the annulment of our constitutional rights, the use of torture and arbitrary detentions, secret prisons and several other un-American acts. War on terror is a contradiction in terms, since war is terror. Wars carried out by nations are 100 times more deadly for innocent people than terrorist attacks.

Babylon-Iraq is synonymous with captives as all of Israel was carried away captive to Babylon for 70 years by King Nebuchadnezzar. And now President Bush has conquered Babylon-Iraq and rules there and refuses to let his prisoners go free, exactly like Nebuchadnezzar of old. Instead of giving liberty to his captives, he deprives them of liberty and no human rights at all.

Soon we will be a full-fledged imperial dictatorship and U.S. citizens will be arrested and imprisoned wholesale with no trial like we are doing already. And the ones Satan is really after are the saints of God. When Antichrist-Beast comes it is written – “And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them…” – (Rev.13:7). Over and over in the Bible, the born again saints of God were cast into prison for preaching the gospel of liberty in Christ. Many were martyred for their faith. This has happened during the last 2000 years also, especially during the Inquisition. The secret prisons of the saints will be here soon.

Torture is only once in the Bible when it speaks of torturing God’s saints – “And others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: and other had trials of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword …” – (Heb.11:35-37). But they overcame – “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death” – (Rev.12:11). It is written on the great tribulation saints – “Fear none of these things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life” – (Rev.2:10).

God casts the Devil into the bottomless pit prison for a 1000 years and then frees him because of His mercy. And the Devil shows his same wicked, incorrigible heart by raising up an army to attack Christ at Jerusalem. “And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison. And shall go out to deceive the nations…” – (Rev.20:7,8). Yes, Christ and Antichrist are characterized by their treatment of prisoners – amen. Are you listening?

Christians during the tribulation will refuse to get the number of the Beast and will be cast into prison. 666 is the number of all Antichrist’s prisoners who are in bondage to their sins and have rejected freedom from sins in Christ. All people who receive the mark of the Beast and his number 666, will become cyber prisoners – the number in them will track them everywhere. Antichrist, through his number, will make the whole world his prison. The real prisoners are those that wear 666, not those who refuse it.

Are you free from your sin through Jesus Christ? Are you born again by God’s Holy Spirit which is the result of true salvation. Receive God’s free gift of His beloved Son on the cross by repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ and sin will no longer reign over you. Be made free from sin by the great Emancipator who gives liberty to those in captivity of their sins and of death. Receive Christ and receive eternal life. Do not spurn God’s amazing grace on the cross – “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord’ – (Rom.6:23).

The Lord Jesus was a prisoner of Rome as was prophesied in (Is.53:8) “He was taken from prison and from judgment…” When Governor Pilate sat on his judgment seat judging his prisoner Jesus Christ and he was to free a prisoner because it was the Passover, the festival of freedom, he asked the Jews which of the two prisoners he should free - Christ or Barabbas? And they chose Barabbas to be set free and crucified Christ – (Mt.27:15,16). Christ was imprisoned in the grave under a judicial process and lay there under arrest for our sins. But by express order from His Father in heaven, He was resurrected from the grave and an angel was sent to roll away the stone and set Him at liberty. “Who was delivered for our offenses and was raised again for our justification” – (Rom.4:25). Christ was tortured to death as a condemned prisoner and raised from the dead so we who are in captivity and bondage for our sins could be set free and conquer death. Be saved from the prison house of hell and the second death in the lake of fire – the ultimate prison house. Be saved and death’s prison bars are broken for you. Christ and Antichrist are characterized by their treatment of prisoners. Christ suffered the punishment of hell for your sins by being tortured to death so the saved won’t have to be tortured in the second death.

Praise the Lord Jesus for freeing us from our sins and Hell.
