Peace – Will We Ever Have It?

By Brother Larry Ekdahl

The world from the beginning has said they are looking for ways to have peace. I don’t believe that for a minute. Ever since Cain had a taste of Abel’s blood, the world has shed seas of blood for land, for riches, for revenge, for lust, for – you name it. Man has a thirst for blood. Throughout history there has been nothing but strife and war with short periods of peace in between. Kind of like rest periods in between battles. Empires rise and fall, all built on war and bloodshed. Even my beloved United States was built upon war and bloodshed. Two wars with England, wars with Tripoli and the Barbary Coast, the Civil War, and the Spanish-American War. Each war resulted in acquisition of more land or riches. Oh yes, I forgot the Indians wars here where we took the whole nation from them. Is America a peace-loving nation? I wot not.

Then we had WWI, the war to end all wars. Twenty years later Mr. Nevill Chamberlain came back to England waving a piece of paper saying, “Peace in our time.” He had made a pact with Hitler, trading the small nation of Checkolslavakia for a promise of peace. Shortly thereafter Germany invaded Poland plunging the world into another world war.

America waited over two years and then literally invited Japan to attack us so we could get into the war and make the world safe for democracy. When Gen. McArthur conducted the surrender ceremonies on the battleship Missouri, he said, “We have had our last chance. If we don’t find a better way of settling our differences we will destroy each other.”

Then was the ‘Korean War’ along with the ‘Cold War’ and the Viet Nam war. And hundred of little wars in between going on at the same time. Finally the Soviet Union collapsed. The west breathed a sigh of relief. But there are always those who will step into the vacuum, as China, Al Queda and numerous Muslim terrorists. It’s all building up to the big one of (Ezk.38 + 39).

The west thinks that if we can convert them to the good life that we have they will be just like us. The only problem with that is that we are not the good guys. As my friend Mike Storti says, American is the new empire, mystery Babylon.

Let’s face it – men love war. They love killing as long as they are the ones doing it. (James.4:1-2) says – “From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obstain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.”

IN (Luke 2:14) it says – “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” (Isaiah 9:6) says in part “The prince of peace.” This is one of the titles of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. But then Jesus said in (Mt.24) that there would be wars and rumors of wars. Nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom. What happened to peace on earth, good will toward men? The messiah was rejected and the Lord’s kingdom of heaven was postponed.

The only peace we can have now until Jesus returns to set up his kingdom is the “Peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Rom.5:1). “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3). (John 14:27) says – “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.” “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – (Philip.4:7).

And so as we see there will never be any peace on earth except the inner peace with God until Jesus returns. Then, of course, there will be perfect peace. (Is.53:12-13, Zach.14:9-11,16,17,20,21 and Rev.20:1-6). There will be an enforced peace for 1000 years because Jesus will rule with a rod of iron.

Yet one more war to come. For a thousand years. People will have resented Christ’s perfect rule and perfect peace. They are ripe and ready when God looses Satan to gather them together in rebellion against the Lord and his saints in the holy city. But the rebellion is short lived for fire comes down from God out of heaven and devours them.

Then comes the judgment of all the lost souls which are cast into the like of fire and eternity begins – (Rev.21 and 22). “But as it is written, eye hath not see, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” – (I Cor.2:9).

In the mean time, we have to live here on this wicked earth. Paul said we should strive to live at peace with all men. However he did not mean peace at any price. No compromise with God’s truth. We are to stand tall for the truth even if necessary unto death. Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus. Amen.
