Measuring the tribulation temple

“And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein” – (Rev.11:1).

The temple here is the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem during the Great Tribulation. The unbelieving Jews will build their temple and will worship there with their renewed ancient sacrifices for a short time. This is the temple that will be desecrated by antichrist when he claims to be God. “Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God” – (2 Thes.2:4). This act is called by Jesus in (Mt.24:15) the abomination of desolation. This is the antichrist (false messiah) temple built in total repudiation of the Lord Jesus Christ. Rejection of Christ brings acceptance of antichrist.

The Lord instructs John to measure the temple and the altar and them that worship therein. God is showing us that he is the judge of man’s worship and man’s character. God will measure the Jews who build this temple and don’t measure up to bible standards. God will measure this temple in truth. Yes, the bible says the tribulation temple will be built but it’s not of God, but of the devil. Christ won’t be in the temple – antichrist will. The temple is the synagogue of Satan. The altar and the worshippers are evil and not good.

When the Jews enter their rebuilt temple, God’s measuring rod falls upon them in a special way. It is safe to say they will not measure up. Jerusalem is spiritually likened to Sodom and Egypt (Rev.11:8) and that shows what the spiritual condition of Israel is. Jesus Christ is the perfect man – the measurement we all shall be measured against. As it is written in (Eph.4:13) “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” Measured against Christ, we are all sinners and need to be saved and become a new creature in Christ. Jesus Christ and his saints are now God’s temple.

It’s the difference between the Old Testament and New Testament. The Old Testament temple and it’s outward beauty and fancy – robed priests and the New Testament temple made of saved, sanctified people with the Holy Ghost in them, living holy lives. The inward appearance to a God who is concerned with measuring hearts not bldgs. The New International Perversion says “Go and measure the temple of god and the altar, and count the worshippers there.” Notice- not measure the worshippers – but count them. Sounds like our big Christian temples today and the big numbers who worship there. Instead of measuring holy lives, they count heads and hypocritically believe they’re successful. Worldly churches measuring the buildings of wood and stone while God is measuring his true temple of born again people made of flesh and bone. “For the lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart” – (I Sam.16:7). God’s measuring rod shows not how beautiful you are or how tall or how slim or how rich or how important you are. His measuring rod shows how big a sinner you are and whether you’re saved by Christ or not. He measures everyone by Jesus Christ – the measure of the fullness of Christ.

But God’s spiritual measurement in the Old Testament is clearly seen also with his law and the commandments that the people were to measure up to. When each of them failed to measure up then they were sinners and they needed a blood sacrifice to atone for their sins. This is what (Rev.11:1) means when it says to measure the altar. – speaking of sacrifices. Jesus Christ Is God’s perfect, sinless, blemishless sacrifice for sin for Jew and Gentile. There is no longer need of an Old Testament temple and animal sacrifices. “Who needeth not daily as these high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself” – (Heb.7:27). “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God” – (Heb.10:12).

Woe, woe, woe to the Jew  and these so-called Christian ministers who help them build this antichrist temple of rejection and start their sacrifices on the altar again which are done away with in Christ. They totally repudiate Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and God’s New Testament (Covenant). This tribulation temple and altar of sacrifice and worshippers will be the most antichrist and blasphemous act ever done on earth. No wonder antichrist will be worshipped in it. And the wrath of God’s Lamb will fall upon them and antichrist will stop the sacrifices and his armies will besiege Jerusalem like Titus and the Romans did in A.D. 70 and the temple and Jerusalem will be destroyed again. The Jews will build their holy of holies and the ark of the covenant and the veil in the holy of holies again – only to be destroyed again by the second Titus – Antichrist. They build the temple in total disobedience of the scriptures.

The temple was destroyed – the veil rent in two

When the living way came – the old way was through

“The angel said, rise and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.” That word ‘rise’ is significant right here – (read John 2:13-22). On Passover, Jesus went into the temple with the measuring rod in his hand (whip) and he showed his righteous anger as he measured the temple and those that worshipped therein. The rod of his wrath – amen. He drove out all the people who were making merchandise of God’s house and threw out the oxen and sheep. And in (vs.19-22) it is written – “Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them…” The saved saints of God are the temple of God also and we shall rise from the dead also. “But if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his spirit that dwelleth in you” – (Rom.8:11). Jesus was killed on the Passover – one sacrifice for sins forever. He is the temple of God and we saints are also.

We see in (John 2) the blind Jewish priesthood and a desecrated temple. We see the wrath of the Lamb at his second coming and his rod instead of a whip – after measuring the defiled temple again. And this antichrist tribulation temple will not stand. The rod of God, the Lord Jesus, is coming again in judgment and he will measure. The Jew’s temple was razed to the ground 37 years after the true temple of God (Jesus Christ) was raised from the ground. God used the Roman army and Titus to do it. In (Rev.11:1) God will measure the Jews his way when they begin worshipping in their tribulation temple. And God will use his last two prophets – his witnesses – to lay the measuring rod down, which is God’s word.

The second coming chapter of (Mt.24) begins this way – “And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” – (Mt.24:1-3). When shall these things be (when the temple is destroyed) and Jesus’ second coming and the great tribulation period are joined in this question. The destruction of Jerusalem and the temple by Titus in A.D. 70 was but a type of what the second Titus (antichrist) will do at the second coming of Christ. That’s the main prophetic fulfillment of everything in (Mt.24). As it is written in (Mt.24:30) “And then shall appear the sign of the son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” The second Titus (antichrist) besieges Jerusalem with his armies and destroys Jerusalem and the temple. But Emperor Jesus Christ comes back and destroys antichrist and saves the Jews. God’s will was for Titus to defeat the Jews in A.D. 70 – but not this time. Jesus will get the triumphal entry this time. (The arch of Titus was built in Rome as a triumphal arch for Titus’s victory at Jerusalem and it still stands). Antichrist will be emperor of a revived Roman Empire, like Titus, and he will destroy the temple. “And the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary” – (Dan.9:26). God uses antichrist to destroy the temple.

It is written in (2 Cor.8:23) “Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper.” In obedience to Christ they went out preaching two by two. Paul and Titus – two yokefellows – two witnesses for Christ. A Jew and a Greek – that’s what the church is made of. How much better it is to be a preacher Titus than to be an Emperor Titus. Preacher Titus got Jews and Gentiles saved and Emperor Titus killed the Jews. Preacher Titus built up the temple of God (the church) and Emperor Titus destroyed the temple. Preacher Titus preached the grace of God to save people and Emperor Titus was the wrath of God upon the Jews who rejected salvation in Christ.

We have false teachers today like Benny Hinn who telecasted from Israel on (Nov.18, 2003). He had a Rabbi Chaim Richman of the Temple Institute in Jerusalem on his program. Even though this Rabbi is not saved, Hinn called him brother and pushed a calendar for $35.00 for Christians to buy to aid in funding of the tribulation temple. Benny Hinn and other false teachers like him are not only seeking Christians approval of the temple, they are asking Christians to support it. Yes, the temple will be built but it’s evil and not good and antichrist will make use of it as a trap to ensnare many. Christians must not help to build this antichrist temple that repudiates the saving work of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Send money to help the Jews for Jesus missionaries to get the Jews saved. Don’t follow these false teachers who make merchandise of you – (2 Pet.2:1-3).

Paul said in (I Cor.4:21) “What will ye? Shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love and the spirit of meekness?” Jesus will come again. But the Jews, as well as the Gentiles, have the choice how he comes unto them. With the rod of his wrath or love. The decision rests with them. If they will repent of their sins and receive Christ as their sacrifice for their sins – then he will come unto them in love. But if they continue to reject him, Christ will come unto them with a rod of wrath. That is what the measuring rod of God will determine. Turn by faith to the Savior Jesus Christ and repent of your sins and believe on Christ in your heart – and thou shalt be saved. Then you will be a part of God’s true temple. – Amen and Amen.
