Jerusalem: A Burdensome Stone

"And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it" - (Zech.12:3).

Jerusalem has become the make-or-break focal point in the Mideast peace process. The nations, and the evil spirit powers behind them, have plans for Jerusalem, but so does the Lord. And just as God vowed through His prophet Zechariah, He will use Jerusalem as the burdensome, immovable stone against which the nations and their plans will be crushed to pieces at Armageddon.

Jerusalem is at the heart of all deals in the Mideast, and it’s the greatest problem of all. The Israelis took control of Jerusalem after the 1967 war. International entities have tried to broker some kind of settlement which would make Jerusalem an 'international city' which is administered by the UN or the Vatican. Many American presidents have tried to broker peace in the Mideast. The EU also has tried to find a solution. There is also the diplomatic 'quartet,' composed of the USA, the EU, the UN and Russia using various roadmap efforts, but all have floundered on the status of Jerusalem. Prime Minister Netanyahu has declared that Israel will never give up control over any part of Jerusalem.

We live in a time when Jerusalem has truly become the “burdensome stone” of the end times prophesied in God's Word. The Palestinians consider East Jerusalem to be their capital. The E.U. (European Union) has made it clear that East Jerusalem is going to be the capital of a future Palestinian state. The U.S. has made it official policy that East Jerusalem is part of 'The West Bank' and has been pressuring Israel to stop all construction in East Jerusalem. So Israel says they will never give up E. Jerusalem, and the rest of the world says they must. Israel is between a rock and a “burdensome stone,” Amen. The world has set themselves directly against the God of the universe and His Word. "And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut to pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it."

Jerusalem, Israel, where the world's plans end in Armageddon, and are dashed to pieces. America, are you ready to be cut to pieces as Obama leads you against the Lord, and against Israel? The most explosive, fought-over, disputed piece of real estate in the world is about to get even hotter. The mount or hill where two Jewish temples once stood, is now the site of the Dome of the Rock shrine and the Al Aqsa Mosque, said by Muslims to be the third holiest place in Islam. The top Muslim cleric there said "that building a temple on the hill would set off major chaos in the region and start a war that only God knows where it would lead." Jerusalem is the burdensome stone for the whole world, and the Temple Mount is the most likely place where the stones start getting thrown. It is written - "And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? Verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?" - (Mt.24:1-3). And then Jesus prophesied of the end times and the Great Tribulation culminating in the battle of Armageddon.

The Jewish temple is the lead in to this important end time prophesy. The Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the temple in 70 A.D. and not one stone was stuck to another in the temple, but totally razed. Jesus is certainly showing us that the most burdensome stone of all is Jerusalem is on the temple mount. Soon a new temple will be built by the Jews on the Temple Mount in order to get Israel to agree to a peace agreement that gives East Jerusalem to the Muslims as their capital. This temple and their animal sacrifices, repudiates everything that the Lord Jesus did on the cross, and is called the “abomination of desolation" - "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation spoken by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place...Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains" - (Mt.24:15,16). And then comes the end of the world by fire at Armageddon and the second coming of Christ with His army of saints.

During this Church age, Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone of a spiritual temple not made with hands, and everyone that is a saved, saint of God, is a spiritual stone in His temple. Living stones, not dead stones - amen. "And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord" - (Eph.2:20-22). Most of the Jews rejected Christ, the headstone of His spiritual church, comprised of Jews and Gentiles. Jesus said - "...The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner" - (Mk.12:10). Jesus also warns everyone not to reject Him as the headstone or He will destroy them. "And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder" - (Mt.21:44). Christ, the cornerstone of His spiritual temple, is also a burdensome stone to both Jews and Gentiles who reject Him. "Unto you therefore which believe he is precious but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner" - (I Pet.2:7). The Lord Jesus Christ, who was crucified on the cross of Calvary in Jerusalem as the Savior of the world, is the burdensome stone for both Jews and Gentiles who have rejected Him. And soon comes the wrath of God upon the Christ-rejecting world, and the Great Tribulation. And so God makes Jerusalem the hotspot and focal point for unbelievers in these end times. The unbelieving world is going to get hurt fooling with Jerusalem. And the 'USA' is in the very center of it - Jer-USA-lem. Amen.

When the temple begins to be built in Jerusalem, God will send His two prophets, His two witnesses, to preach God's truth in Christ one last time, just before the Tribulation, They will preach for exactly 1260 days (Rev.11:1-13) and then be killed in Jerusalem, and Jerusalem will become a much greater burdensome stone than it is now. They will have power to stop the rain and turn the water to blood. The world will get very thirsty.

Christ will return as a rock of offense, and the smiting stone, and destroys Antichrist-Beast at Armageddon when he is trying to annihilate Israel. Christ cuts them in pieces - "Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver and the gold, broken to pieces together, and become like the chaff of the summer threshing floors;...and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth. And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed... but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.” Yes, Christ, the smiting stone, and the burdensome stone, upon the unbelievers that have spurned the love and grace of God's beloved Son. Two thirds of Israel are killed, and one third is saved when the whole world comes against Jerusalem at Armageddon, as God's mercy is shown to one third of Israel because of their godly father's sake - (Zech.13:8,9). "Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle" - (Zech.14:3) and (Rev.19.11-21). Christ the smiting stone saves Israel at Armageddon.

Jerusalem will go on forever as God's dwelling place on earth. It will be the world's capital when Christ rules from there over the whole earth a King of Kings and high priest during the Millennium. And then New Jerusalem comes down to earth and God the Father, and God the Son will be there for eternity. And all of us who are the born again children of God, will live eternally as the holy family of God upon the earth. And death and sin shall be no more. And this was God's plan before He created this world.

Can you imagine starting Armageddon over the temple in Jerusalem when God doesn't dwell there anymore? - The martyr Stephen said this just before the Jews murdered him - "But Solomon built him an house. Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet" - (Acts 7:47, 48). God no longer dwells in temples made of wood and stone, but in saved, sanctified people made of flesh and bone. When you're born again and indwelt by the Holy Spirit because Christ saves you, then you're a part of the spiritual temple of God. People resist the Holy Ghost and build temples to God and provoke the Lord to anger - "Ye stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye." - (Acts 7:51). They refuse to have their bodies become the temple of the Holy Spirit, and so they build temples jnstead.

Jerusalem is a burdensome stone because the Devil and his children hate God and the city of God, and God's Son, the Lord Jesus, and curse Him continually worldwide. And the Devil knows that the Lord Jesus is coming back soon to Jerusalem to rule as king over the whole earth. "Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the North, the city of the great King" - (Ps.48:1,2). The King is coming. King Jesus is coming soon to Jerusalem, and so Jerusalem has become a burdensome stone to the Devil's children. All the world's hatred over Jerusalem, Israel shows us that we are in the end times, and the second coming of Christ draws nigh, and the Devil is warring against Christ's second coming that ends in Armageddon. Jerusalem is the crisis that will set the world on fire.
