Unlearned and Ignorant Men
“And the Jews marveled saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?” (Jn.7:15).
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus” – (Acts 4:13).
This is where our troubles lie in our Independent, Fundamental Baptist Churches today. Instead of ignorant and unlearned men full of courage turning the world upside down for Jesus, we have educated learned men full of Doctor degrees and college, building universities. The need of the hour is for young men, saved and born again and called to be preachers, to shun these citadels of higher learning and be taught by the divine teacher, the Holy Ghost. “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and spake the word of God with boldness” – (Acts ).
We need bold preachers who are not afraid to preach on sin, not Dr’s who preach on syntaxes. Preachers who will boldly preach the King James Bible in English, not preachers who spend their time in the Hebrew and Greek languages foolishly reading their Greek New Testament every day.
where is the New Testament scripture that tells us to go to some
An unholy and ungodly valuation of higher learning, which supplants the dependence upon the Holy Spirit is the main reason why God’s presence and blessing have departed from our Christian colleges. If young men are taught that they cannot become able ministers of God’s word unless they first take a prescribed course in a Bible school, then they’re preaching false doctrine and need to be reproved. If this false doctrine, if a course in some bible school is advocated instead of waiting upon God and the daily searching of the scriptures in private, then we need to correct them and reprove them. It’s a deadly heresy that will produce the same dead scholars that opposed the Lord Jesus and the first preachers. It’s the foolish wisdom of this world instead of the wisdom of God.
Jesus deliberately picked men like himself, men who would be taught by the Holy Spirit and not by man. Men who were not taught and corrupted by the Rabbi’s and the religious schools of their day. And who never would be. The early church followed the example of their Lord and picked qualified men, qualified in character not qualified in college. They were filled with the Holy Ghost boldness and courage (not college) and preached with the Holy Spirit power of God – taught by the Holy Ghost. “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” – (I Jn.2:27).

Now days, the devil corrupts the religious schools and their corrupted graduates go back in church pulpits and corrupt the people and the whole denomination falls away into apostasy. God’s way forces the devil to try to corrupt each man individually and independently because there is no central place of higher learning to corrupt. It makes it much more difficult for Satan to wreck his havoc on the inside of the church. The devil’s primary method of destroying the church is the Trojan-horse way- from the inside. He gets his children in the pulpits and you can spot them easily – most of them have white dog collars on and religious vestments and have more degrees than a thermometer. They glory in their scholastic achievements.

Jesus said this about the Holy Spirit, that part of the Godhead that does the teaching – “But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” – (Jn.14:16). And again- “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come”- (Jn.16:13).
Jesus said in (Jn.7:17) “If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.” Spiritual wisdom comes not through the intellect but through the heart. Jesus was the greatest teacher the world ever had and he taught the heart not the head. (Heb.11:3) says – “Through faith we understand,” and faith comes not by schooling but by believing God’s word. You must desire to be a doer of God’s word in order for you to grow in the knowledge and wisdom of God and to obtain spiritual discernment. The heart has to be right before the head receives God’s wisdom. If the heart’s not right there would be no value in knowing God’s truth. God will not grant light on his Word unless we want to walk according to that light. And if a preacher does not have the courage to preach the truth, why should God teach him the truth. Hosea the prophet said – “Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord” – (Hos.6:3). We should desire to be Godly not smart.
If a preacher desires to learn God’s wisdom, he must zero in on sin and preach straight and true on it. He must not be only a prophecy preacher neglecting to preach on sin and salvation. He must not be a ‘safe’ preacher and only preach on the ‘religiously correct’ truth but preach the negative as well as the positive. He must diligently watch sin in his own life. In any area of our personal life that we reject light in, we will have a blind spot and be unable to preach straight on it.
Yes, there are teachers in the local church but when you take the teaching out of the local church and into the Bible Schools you have moved away from the Lord Jesus and are following the world, being desirous to be learned like the world. Pride is causing our downfall. Preachers don’t want to be just a preacher or Pastor, they went to be a doctor. They desire flattering titles – “Let me not, I pray you, accept any man’s person, neither let me give flattering titles unto men” – (Job 32:21). Jesus said “But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ: and all ye are brethren” – (Mt.23:8). Instead of Rabbi let’s just write teacher or Dr. of theology for the meaning is the same. It seems that more and more of our pastors desire to be known as Dr. so they can glory in their pride and put it on church signs and stationary. Independent Baptist Churches practically give them away to ‘Honor’ them with ‘honorary’ degrees. And it’s the death knoll of our churches.
It is these scholars from schools that are destroying the faith in God’s preserved, infallible, inerrant, inspired Word which is the King James Bible. They may even believe that their Hebrew and Greek testaments are inspired but not the English. Because their pride wants them to be the only ones capable of reading God’s true Word. Beware young preacher of all bible schools today and these proud doctors who think that the ‘scholar’s only’ – club has the intellect to have God’s truth. Instead of being corrected by it, in their pride they correct it – (2 Tim.3:16).
Be an unlearned and ignorant preacher like the Lord Jesus and the early preachers and don’t desire flattering titles of the world. Hold in your hand the inspired King James Bible and preach the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth and continue to be taught by the Holy Spirit. Then you will preach in the true power of God and these independent, Fundamental Baptist ‘Rabbis’ will marvel at you also. You don’t need a ‘sheepskin’ from college to preach the Lamb of God. Be full of courage not college. Human teachers are corruptible but the Holy Spirit is incorruptible. Make sure you have the right book and the right teacher.
Be an unlearned and ignorant man – like the Lord Jesus
