Armageddon and the Battle Hymn of the Republic

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse, and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called the Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, and LORD OF LORDS” – (Rev.19:11-16).

Battle Hymn of the Republic

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord,

He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored,

He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword.

Refrain: Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

As God’s watchman I’m blowing the trumpet of warning for America. The judgment of God for the great sin of slavery and our continuing subjection of blacks and having respect of persons toward them, is reflected in Julia Ward Howe’s song, ‘The Battle Hymn of the Republic’ that was the marching song of the union army in the Civil War. The warning of this song is especially applicable for America today.

‘Battle Hymn’ is both a patriotic song and a hymn that is sung not only by school marching bands, but also in churches throughout the U.S., as God wants this warning heard by all America. The song is listed under patriotic songs in hymnals along with ‘America’, ‘America the Beautiful’, ‘Faith of our Fathers,’ and ‘The Star-Spangled Banner.’ Perhaps these other songs should not be sung in church because they are not “Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” – (Eph.5:19). But Howe’s song is a hymn and Bible truth on Christ’s second coming at the battle of Armageddon.

The people that wrote these songs were not true Christians. Howe was raised in a conservative, Christian home but she rebelled against this and became a Unitarian and certainly was not born again. But God will use wicked Antichrist for His glory and He can certainly use unsaved Julia Ward Howe for His glory also. There is Bible truth in her song that God is using in these end times. It is one of the few songs that sings about Christ’s second coming in wrath instead of His amazing grace and it’s important in these days to sing it.

But we also need to hear this song because God is showing U.S. the Civil War that was fought primarily over slavery and was a very important time in America and should not be forgotten. There were other factors for the South like economics and state rights. The South was using the sweat of black slaves to do their work and make huge profits for the white plantation owners – masters.

But the song is especially warning U.S. about Armageddon and pointing to the empire of Antichrist that will soon rule the world during the great tribulation. The mark of the Beast is an electronic slave brand that will enslave the world. It’s also warning us of our black and white problem and black civil rights that could spark another Civil War. It’s the same problem that we continue to have 140 years after the war. God is showing us vividly in this song of the second coming of Christ in wrath and judgment as commander-in-chief of His heavenly army of saints and angels to defeat Antichrist at Armageddon – (Rev.19).

God has been longsuffering and merciful with our nation that espouses liberty for all and yet we still see many churches practicing segregation, which is heresy. They deny liberty to blacks to attend the church of their choice to hear the gospel. When blacks go to an all white church, they are asked to go elsewhere and this is totally against the New Testament scriptures and a stench in the nostrils of God. God’s marching orders to all His preachers in His great commission to – “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” – (Mk.16:15). Every creature, every color, every nationality, Jew or Gentile – every creature. And any preacher that refuses to preach the gospel to blacks in his church and allow them into membership when they get saved, is not fit to be a preacher. I believe the root cause of segregation in our nation is the segregated churches. The most segregated time in America is 11 o’clock on Sunday mornings. And we have not repented of this vile sin of being a respecter of persons and eradicated it in our churches.

You will stand in judgment before God O segregated preacher who has no love for his black neighbor and yet claims to love Christ. God’s judgment is soon to fall upon U.S. God may very well give U.S. the Antichrist to rule over us – a wicked man to rule over this wicked nation. And he may be a black president-Antichrist who could bring great persecution upon our churches, especially the segregated ones. It will be pay-back time for the white’s oppression of blacks for over 400 years in our nation. Segregated churches will surely bring down the wrath of God upon U.S. soon. How would you like federal troops forcing you to integrate your churches instead of doing it because of love to black sinners who need Christ?

The ‘Battle Hymn’ song is powerfully equating slavery with the empire of Antichrist. It equates the wickedness of our slavery with the wickedness of Antichrist and Armageddon. And it would be shown to U.S. clearly if the black Antichrist, who is a member of an apostate church, is the first black president of the U.S. Remember that Satan is the great deceiver. The song is a fitting warning for America today.

The marching song for the union army in the beginning was ‘John Brown’s Body.’ Later they sung ‘Battle Hymn’ to the tune of ‘John Brown’s Body.’ John Brown was a radical abolitionist who attempted to free slaves with his own private army and murdered proslavery settlers in Kansas. He captured the U.S. arsenal at Harper’s Ferry in West Virginia in 1859 and was captured, tried and hung by Col. Robert E. Lee. So Howe’s song is solidly connected with slavery and a warning for these end times. Are you listening?

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the (second) coming of the Lord. First comes God’s judgment upon the world during the great tribulation and then the Lord, the King of Glory, comes back. “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory” – (Mt.24:30). Again, “Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle” – (Ps.24:8).

The Lord Jesus Christ is coming back in glory to fight the battle of the great day of God Almighty at Armageddon (Rev.16:14-16). He’s coming back with His army of saints that He bought with His precious blood. He’s the great Redeemer who only has the power to free the slaves that are in bondage to sin and Satan. Look at so many blacks today in bondage to sins of all kinds, they are not truly free. We are all sinners, we are all in bondage to sin, we all need Christ the Redeemer to set us free on the inside. We need to be free born by Christ – born again.

As (Rev.19:15) says about Christ at His second coming at Armageddon – “he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.” This is the second coming of Christ in wrath upon all those that have rejected the precious blood of the grapes that His grace gave us on the cross. The unredeemed blood of unsaved sinners will be crushed at His second coming. They spurned the wine of God’s grace on the cross and now they receive “the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath” – (Rev.16:19). It’s the grapes of wrath time, just not for U.S., but for the whole world – “… thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs” – (Rev.14:18-20) Christ comes back in judgment to reap the harvest of human fruit. Sin’s harvest is fully ripe and it’s time for Him to reap.

This is the consummation of God’s dealing with wicked man on the earth, as expressed in the harvest of the vintage. It’s called the day of vengeance in (Is.63:2-4) “Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in my anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.” Notice the word ‘redeemed’ – freeing the slaves – amen.

In (Joel 3:9-13) We see Christ trampling out the blood of sinners in vats that are full in the battle of Armageddon where all the armies of the earth with Antichrist try to prevent Christ’s second coming. “Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up. Beat our plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong. Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O Lord, let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.” Not only do we see the grape harvest but we see the wheat harvest as well. God is showing you both the bread and the wine. All those that have received the body and blood of Christ on the cross and the marvelous grace of God, signified by the bread and the wine, shall be trodden under foot and will shed their blood like a great river.

Repent of sin and by faith believe on Christ in your heart in truth and you will receive forgiveness of sins and become a new born again creature in Christ – free born. Christ will set you free from the bondage of sin and Satan and give you eternal life. Be redeemed and set free by the precious blood of Christ. Do not spurn the grace and mercy and love of God in His dearly begotten Son on the cross. You will be saved from the wrath of God – “For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ” – (I Thes.5:9). Take the wine cup of salvation and you won’t receive the cup of the wine of the wrath of God. Then you can sing with joy in your heart the ‘Battle Hymn of the Republic’ because you’re been set free by Christ the redeemer – “If the son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” – (Jn.8:36).
