“But the house of
“Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts… Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day: lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” – (Heb.3:7,8,12,13).
Hard-heartedness comes from a proud and rebellious attitude that leads a person to reject God’s Word. God has given man a free human will that can either receive or resist God’s Word. One of most usual ways of resisting God is for a person to “harden his heart.” Their heart becomes like a hard rock or a millstone so that they can’t be touched with the truth of God’s Word any longer.
And hard-hearted people become ‘impudent’ people – they not longer feel shame. They lack modesty and are contemptuous and full of cocky boldness in their sin. They become brazen in their sins. And it is at this time that God must send hard-headed preachers full of Holy Ghost boldness to preach against these hard-hearted people. God must raise up prophet-preachers like Ezekiel – “Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads. As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house” – (Ezk.3:8,9). Bold sinners must have bold reprovers. God will raise up courageous preachers strong and more unflinching that those who oppose His message. Like the two witnesses soon to come (Rev.11) with foreheads like “flint” that will call down “fire” from heaven upon the hard-hearted.
The U.S is like a giant Ostrich –
“She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers…” – (Job 39:16) – not worried about whether
they’re killed or not. Our
Hard necks is the same as hard hearts – “They harkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their necks: they did
worse than their fathers” – (Jer.7:26). Judgment is coming soon – “He, that being often reproved hardeneth
his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed,
and that without remedy” – (Prov.29:1). The next vs. tell us how we’re
destroyed by giving
We can also see our hard-heartedness with our frequent divorce. Divorce
was allowed in the O.T. only for the cause of fornication, but the real reason
for divorce is told us by Jesus –
“because of the hardness of your hearts” – (Mt.19:8). Hard-heartedness
destroys marriages: that’s the bottom line. Scottish people talk about falling
in love as ‘having a soft heart.’ When we are no longer soft-hearted in love
with our spouse, and the deceitfulness of sin and adultery hardens the heart,
then divorce becomes rampant. We can see our hard-heartedness with our 60%
divorce rate and many multiple marriages. And the Church is the same as the
world because cowardly preachers lack the courage to preach the truth to their
flocks. Our preachers don’t need more college, they need more Holy Ghost
boldness and courage – “… and they were
all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they
spake the word of God with boldness” – (Acts ).
A marriage needs ‘soft hearts’ in order to survive – two good forgivers. And we need soft hearts toward our Lord who is the husband of His bride, the Church. “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it… and the wife see that she reverence her husband” – (Eph.5:25,33). We can see less and less love for our spouses because we have less and less love for the Lord Jesus. We are more and more hard-hearted in marriage because we are more and more hard-hearted toward Christ and His Word. The best synonym for love is the word ‘charity.’ Charity is an unselfish love toward others and must be shown to our spouses. “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not: charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeth not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not an iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things” – (I Cor.12:4-7). Husbands need to be born again and baptized with the Holy Spirit instead of just becoming church members and being baptized with water. Then they must read the Bible and not magazines and books and watch the filthy T.V.
Church members sit in soul-winning churches for years as hypocrites and
have never been born again into the spiritual
It is written of Christ – “He had
looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts” – (Mk.3:5). Here we see the
righteous anger of our Lord against the hard-hearted Pharisees who would not
believe in His miracles on the Sabbath day. I tremble when I read that and
think of God’s anger upon hard-hearted
It is written of Christ meeting with His disciples after His resurrection – “…and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen” – (Mk.1614). Unbelief in God’s Word brings hardness of heart. Christ had told them plainly that He would be crucified and rise from the dead – “An evil heart of unbelief” – amen.
Again about Paul – “And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months… But when divers were hardened, and believed not…” – (Acts 19:9). Hard hearts and unbelieving hearts are unsaved hearts.
We remember the hard-hearted king Nebuchadnezzar
of Babylon and God turning him into a beast and I tremble for hard-hearted
Babylon-USA if we don’t repent. Will God send the Beast to rule over
The original sin of the universe was pride, committed by an angel named
‘Lucifer’ and now known as Satan – (Is.14:12-15). His Antichrist will be the
most proud man ever – (2 Thes.2:4). Pride, the root of sin
and hard-heartedness. Pr-I-de the big I – I-I-I.
The middle letter in sin and the middle letter in pride.
I’ll go my own way. I’ll do whatever I want to do. That’s exactly the heart
condition of the
Finally we have these verses – “And thinkest thou this, O man… that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? Or despisest the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering: not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasureth up thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God” – (Rom.2:3-5). No man shall escape the righteous judgment of God. The judgment and wrath of God is coming soon during the tribulation and there is the white throne final judgment after the Millennium in (Rev.20:11-15) where the wicked unsaved are cast in the lake of fire. God’s goodness to you should lead you to repentance and salvation in Christ. If you are not saved, why not repent and be saved by Christ right now? Do not force God to deal with you in severity. All your continued wickedness is doing is storing away day by day a fresh deposit of wickedness for your judgment day. God will judge your hard and impenitent heart and will put you in hell.
Repent of your sins today and believe on Christ in your heart by faith and you will receive forgiveness of sin and become a new born creature in Christ. Do not spurn the grace and love and mercy of God in His beloved Son on the cross who died and shed His precious blood so that you could be saved. You can conquer your death, both the first death of the body and the second death in the lake of fire and receive eternal life – “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that beliveth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” – (Jn.3:36). It is written “a soft answer turneth away wrath…” – (Prov.15:1). We need a soft answer of yes to God for His grace and love in His Son. We need a soft heart that will repent and believe God’s gospel of love and turns away the wrath of God.
Soften your hard heart and be saved today because your judgment day will be a court of justice not mercy.
