Gutenberg Again: Preaching on the Web

“And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem” – (Luke 24:47).

Of all of man’s technological inventions, the most far-reaching started on August 15, 1455“The Printing Press.” For thousands of years all books were written by hand, including the Bible. It took many weeks or months to painstakingly make a copy of God’s Word. It was done with a brush or a reed or quill. Jewish and Christian scribes toiled over their precious manuscripts and a copy of God’s word was very precious. Then along came Johann Gutenberg, a German goldsmith who invented the first movable-type printing press in 1456 that worked. The first books he printed were 200 gorgeously type-set Bibles and he unleashed an information epidemic that rages to this day. The scribes were out of business. Of course, as God shows us with the tree of knowledge in (Gen.2 and 3) this knowledge can be used for good or evil. You can print a Holy Bible or an unholy ‘Playboy Magazine’ or filthy books that blaspheme the Lord Jesus Christ.

I look upon the development of the World Wide Web the same way earlier generations looked upon Gutenberg’s Printing Press. The protestant reformation would never have happened without the invention of his printing press. It enabled Luther to publish his truth without the control of the Catholic Church and his excommunication by them and he had freedom of the press. So today the computer, hooked up to a printer, gives an individual the power to print and speak his sermons and send them worldwide over the WEB. This is the redistribution of power caused by the invention of the WEB that allows one person to publish and preach his works without control by the church and state authorities. There is no control over our preaching so that we can freely preach the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth that we can no longer do over the radio and TV. And we can use audio sermons with the printed sermons also on the web.

This is the day of the world wide apostasy and falling away of the nominal church prophesied in (2 Thes.2:3) just before the revealing of Antichrist and the second coming of Christ. This falling away has left a great hunger and thirst in people, both saved and unsaved, for the truth of God’s Word. And God has opened a great door of opportunity through the WWW for God’s true preachers to reach hungry hearts worldwide. “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries” – (I Cor.16:9). This door into people’s homes worldwide is a much greater door than Luther’s door of All Saints Church in Wittenberg. But this door of opportunity will not be open long as it will soon be controlled by the beast.

The mark of the beast will be a computer digit

It will control our destinies – God forbid it.

The internet is inherently evil because people are inherently evil and Satan will succeed in closing the WWW door to God’s true preachers before too long. It is written in (Job 8:13,124) “So are the paths of all that forget God: and the hypocrites hope shall perish: whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider’s web.” And again – “Let the wicked fall into their own nets. Whilst that I withal escape” – (Ps.141:10). And again – “For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, so are the sons of men snared in an evil time when it falleth suddenly upon them” – (Eccl. 9:12). First God’s grace and mercy preaches the gospel on the net for all the ‘whosoever wills’ then the giant Internet and WEB of Satan will snap shut and ensnare all the wicked unsaved in the world with 666. We will lose our freedom of the press. The beast will be the black widow spider that rules the WEB and ensnares and kills millions.

But not before God has preached his word of truth over the WEB and millions of printed pages and audio sermons are disseminated worldwide. What started with Gutenberg in 1455 is being finished today. And make no mistake about it, what is happening now with the WEB is of much greater impact and importance than in Luther’s day. Once again the church has been taken over by the devil’s ministers - (2 Cor.11:13-15), not just in Roman Catholic but mainline Protestant churches as well. And God is going outside of them and using the individual and the power of the printed page like He did 600 years ago. And he’s doing it just before the rapture of his saints so the truth and light of God’s Word cannot be extinguished by Satan’s Beast and False Prophet. And we can preach virtually free of charge so we don’t ‘sell out’ our ministry for money. It’s not the webpress invented in 1875 that prints a continuous roll of paper, but the World Wide Web press that is most important.

Preaching on the WEB is the largest growth area on it as God is touching the hearts of His true preachers in these end days. God is moving outside the power of church denominations that have rejected his truth once again. Without the printing press there would have been no protestant reformation and without the WEB there could not be a modern-day enlightenment of God’s truth preached worldwide. The internet is a true modern-day revolution of Gutenberg proportions and we are the modern-day Martin Luthers with more truth than Martin Luther ever had. And no print shop can refuse our work because of the content. The Iinternet right now is the true freedom of the press.

O born again preacher of God, preach over the WEB. Put the King James Bible, God’s preserved, infallible, inerrant, inspired Word, in your hand and preach the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth as a faithful and true witness of Jesus Christ. We must follow the example of our Lord while we still have the light of day because the great tribulation darkness of Satan is on the horizon. “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” – (Jn.9:4,5). Be a bright shining candlestick for Jesus and let the light of God’s Word shine through you worldwide. Fish the .net preacher – there are six billion fish out there. And you don’t need a college degree in order to do it. Soon comes the Beast and we will lose the freedom of the computer press to preach God’s truth cheaply worldwide.

Gutenberg Again: Preaching over the WEB

P.S. – I preached this sermon on February 20, 2005 and on February 23, 2005 Pres. Bush toured the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, Germany with his wife which is dedicated to their home town boy who invented the Printing Press. It was God’s confirmation of the truth of this sermon. Amen and Amen.
