9/11 - God’s Alarm Clock

preached 6/7/04

“My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart: my heart maketh a noise in me: I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.” (Jer.4:19)

My calling as the bible watchman is from (Ezk.33:2-4) “When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand. So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.” And again in (I Cor.14:8) “For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?”  The watchman must not be uncertain. He must preach the word of truth, that which is dependable, reliable – for certain.

Once the watchman performed his duty, then it was the responsibility of all who heard it to act accordingly. If the warning went unheeded, the faithful watchman was not to blame. All the responsibility would rest upon the one warned – his blood is on his own head.

Most especially in the spiritual realm is this so. Now Ezekiel was to preach repentance of sin to the wicked nation. If they did or didn’t repent, the choice was theirs. Israel was to be judged by God for their wicked ways. The enemy Babylon would conquer them if they didn’t repent. So it was a spiritual message, but the impending sword of the enemy was a real, physical one. – Repent or perish was the watchman’s warning.

So this is my duty as God’s watchman- to blow the trumpet of God’s word and blow the alarm of war to America. As it is written in (Is.58:1) Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” I felt especially this calling on 9/11 when the terrorists destroyed the twin towers in N.Y. I wrote a tract entitled ‘When the Towers Fall – Repent or Perish.’ My text was (Luke 13:4-5) and (Zeph.1:16). “A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities and against the high towers.”

I wrote – “The September 11th judgment of God upon U.S. is a loud wake-up call to repent of our sins and our time is running out.” (That was nearly three years ago). On June 2, 2004, my alarm clock broke so I bought a ‘Big Ben’ which works fine. I checked ‘Big Ben’ on the web. It’s the most famous clock tower in the world in London, England. And God started working with me in a great way. This sermon- ‘9/11 – God’s Alarm Clock,’ is the result.

The definition of alarm is (to give a warning to) and I have fear in my heart and foreboding for America as I write this sermon. I hear God’s alarm clock ringing for our nation again. I believe our time on the clock is running out again. It’s possible that I hear another calamity coming upon us and it may be soon.

Possibly God is showing me that the great and dreadful day of the Lord is near – the great tribulation period. In (Joel 2:1) it is written, “Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand.” This also is an alarm of war, the great tribulation and Armageddon and the end of the world. I believe we’re in the time of the end. We must take heed to (Hos.10:12) “For it is time to seek the Lord.” I hear the ringing of God’s alarm clock for U.S. again - it is near. Much worse is coming ahead for us – our sins are catching up with us.

In (Num.10:2, 5, 9) it shows us two trumpets to blow the alarm of war. If the people of our land take heed to God’s early warning system from his watchmen like me who are preaching this, the Lord will save us from our enemies. God’s alarm clock is to awaken U.S. from a deep sleep. It is written in (I Thes.5:3 and 6) “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.” Judgment is coming soon. I fear that many Americans will sleep the sleep of death on that day.

God’s alarm clock rang on 9/11 and then he used his watchmen to preach repent or perish – (my computer shows me that many did). All of America was awakened in the morning of 9/11 from sleep by God’s alarm clock. But we have not repented of sin, instead we became patriotic and started bombing and killing around the world at an even greater rate than before.

One preacher said, “Let’s get one thing clear: patriotism is an exercise in pride. God did not allow the 9/11 attack in order to bring about a revival of prideful patriotism. He is calling this nation to repentance and not pride. Our pride is what has gotten us in this trouble. God wants to see U.S. humble ourselves before him and repent of our sins. Thus far, we seem to have missed the message. God used 9/11 to set off an alarm clock for America. But I fear the response has been on of rolling over, hitting the snooze button and going back to sleep.” – Yes – 9/11 – God’s alarm clock, but America is back sleeping.

Everywhere you look these days, you see American flags and window stickers with the slogan – God bless America. That slogan is wrong. God has already blessed America. What we need now is not for the Lord to bless us, but for us to bless him. The slogan should read – America bless God. As my dear friend in Wisconsin, brother Larry Ekdahl sings it so beautifully in (Ps.103:1) “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”

In (Dan.28) we see how God blesses and curses a nation and it all depends whether we’re a godly, righteous nation or not. To write and sing ‘God Bless America’ and continue on in our wickedness is foolishness and hypocrisy and prideful. (Prov.3:33) says

“The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.”

9/11 is also the emergency number on the telephone. The U.S.A. is in need of emergency assistance from the Lord. We need to put the emergency brakes on sin and stop immediately. It is no happenstance that the calamity happened on 9/11. It was an emergency call for our nation, who have been asleep in sin, to repent. The wonder of it all is that God waited so long to unleash his divine wrath upon U.S. The Pentagon, headquarters for the mightiest military the world has ever seen, called 911 when it was hit by the terrorists, and yet refuses to call upon the Lord. The richest and strongest nation on earth was attacked by a few Moslems with nothing more than plastic knives and box cutters using our own planes. As it is written “The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong.” (Ecc.9:11). We have enough weapons to cremate the would several times over and we were humbled by box cutters. But instead of humbling ourselves to the Lord,; and praying and seeking God’s face and turning from our wicked ways, we continue on in our pride murdering thousands of people because we can’t bear our humiliation. The truth is the U.S.A. has wickedly departed from the Lord and the Lord our defense has departed from U.S.

It is written in (Jer.50:31-32) “Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord God of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee. And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.” Yes, BabylonU.S.A. will fall because we are most proud and will not humble ourselves and repent. Fire will burn our cities. Our time is running out as a nation.

In (Jer.51:39) it is written, “I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the Lord.” We shall have a drunken sleep of death. We will be caught sleeping on watch and we will be destroyed suddenly.

God’s alarm clock is a fitting symbol for 9/11. And because this proud nation refuses to repent, I hear it ringing again. O, America, repent of your wickedness. Like Nineveh of old, or you’ll fall. (2 Chr.7:14) says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

9/11 was a loud wake-up call from God’s alarm clock – like a Big Ben. It was a clock tower for U.S. Visualize a clock at the top of the world trade center towers ringing for America. Many of the world’s clock towers are in church towers. Repentance needs to start in the church and be an example to our nation. Time is running out for U.S. Take heed to this watchman’s trumpet of warning blowing the alarm of war and God’s judgment upon U.S.

The key to understanding 9/11 is the length of time these towers took to fall before being burned and destroyed. – they both fell within one hour. It is written in (Rev.18:9-10) “And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.” And again in (vs.17) “For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off.”

The two world trade center towers symbolically represent Babylon U.S.A. so they had to be burnt up and fall in one hour. Do you see trade in (vs.17), oh yes, world trade center towers, Amen. The first tower in the world was the tower of Babel which became Babylon. On 9/11, as the ships out to sea from New York, looked upon the burning, they were also looking at the only city called Babylon in the world – Babylon, N.Y. – just 37 miles east of New York City.

Take heed to God’s alarm clock- Don’t go back to sleep - “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” And again in (I Cor.15:34) “Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.”  Wake up or burn up America! I hear the alarm of war and it will make U.S. desolate in one hour. We are a ticking time bomb. Will the beast rule over U.S. for a time, times, and half a time?

Are you saved and born again in Christ? Ye must be saved (Acts 4:12). Ye must be born again (Jn.3:7). Repent of your sins and call upon the Lord Jesus to save you from the wrath to come. Don’t just join a church and be baptized or make altar calls. Repent and believe on Christ for remission of sins. If you do this in truth, you will be born again by the Holy Spirit and become a new creature in Christ. Amen and Amen.
