God’s Free Gift of His Son

“But not as the offence, so also is the free gift, for if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offenses unto justification” – (Rom.5:15,16).

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God- (Eph.2:8).

One sin by Adam plunged the human race into sin and one act of obedience and the death of Christ on the cross makes it possible for lost sinners to be saved. Out of the source of one sin (Adam’s), God’s judgment of death fell, resulting in the condemnation of all. Out of the source of many sins, God’s grace, a free gift of salvation unto life, came, resulting in justification.

The truth of these tremendous verses is simply this: God’s free gift, His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, immeasurably outweighs the transgressions of man. In Adam all are sinners and all die. But all are invited to come to Christ and be saved and have eternal life. The reason I have everlasting life is not because I am good, or righteous, or holy, or pure or sinless. I have everlasting life because I’m saved by Jesus Christ. The free gift of God, the Lord Jesus, is by God’s grace. We cannot earn it by good works – it’s a gift by grace. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” – (Jn.3:16).

The great sacrifice was provided by love. Christ was God’s love gift to man. The death of God’s beloved Son was the supreme demonstration of God’s love. Love is unselfish – it gives. God gave his very best. He freely gave his only begotten Son on the cross so that sinners could be saved, and conquer death, both the first death of the body and the second death in the lake or fire. God didn’t give us his Son because he was obligated to or because he had to. He gave him because he loved us. And we who have been saved by God’s tremendous gift are to give also – it is to be a love gift. “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver” – (2 Cor.9:7).

It is written in (2 Cor.9:15) “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” It is impossible to express in the words of man the greatness of God’s precious gift, for it is higher and greater than the mind of man can conceive. God’s free gift of his beloved son is more valuable than all the languages in the world could express. THNAKS BE UNTO GOD FOR HIS UNSPEAKABLE GIFT. Jesus Christ is God’s unspeakable free gift to man. “Who gave himself for our sins…” – (Gal.1:4). “Who loved me and gave himself for me” – (Gal.2:20). “Who gave himself a ransom of all, to be satisfied in due time” – (I Tim.2:6). “Who gave himself for us…” – (Titus 2:14). For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given” – (Is.9:6). Jesus Christ is God’s free gift to men. There is no language that can describe a gift like Jesus.

God showed us in the beginning with the almost offering of Abraham’s son Isaac as a burnt offering on Mt. Moriah, that God would be the giver of the sin offering for man. “And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb of a burnt offering” – (Gen.22:8). This is a perfect picture of God the father offering his free gift of his beloved son on the cross. God’s offering was a free will offering, a gift by the grace of God. Salvation is free – amen.

Sin offerings the Old Testament were both positive and negative offerings. The gifts under the levitical priesthood came under the ‘freewill offerings.” “And whosoever offereth a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the Lord to accomplish his vow, or a freewill offering in beeves or sheep, it shall be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish therein” – (Lev.22:21). God’s free gift to man was a perfect sacrifice not having sin of spot or blemish – “But with the precious blood or Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot” – (I Pet.1:19). God gave us his most perfect gift – the gift that will give us forgiveness and remission of our sins and eternal life instead of an eternal hell. There is no better gift in the universe then the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is written of Christ our great high priest – “For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts sand sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. Nor yet that he should offer himself. As the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; for then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world; but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself” – (Heb.8:3 and 9:25, 26). No high priest in the Old Testament gave himself for a sacrifice for sin, he merely sacrificed animals or doves. But God’s dear son offered up himself a sacrifice for sin on the cross. And he did it freely as a freewill offering as God’s gift to sinful man. Have you received this heavenly gift? Are you saved and born again by God’s Holy Spirit.

When we receive God’s free gift of this son, then we are given another very special gift from God – the gift of the Holy Spirit. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” – (Acts 2:38). When we repent of our sins and truly believe on Christ in our heart by faith then we become new born again creatures in Christ. The holy Spirit takes up residence in us and leads and guides us into holy lives and teaches us about the Lord Jesus.

God gave his wonderful gift to us on the first Christmas day 2000 years ago when Christ was born in a manager. When I see the heathen Santa Claus Christmases of today and all this worldly gift giving I get very jealous for the Lord. My daughter said it very well in her wonderful poem entitled.

“A Different Tree”

There were no tiny colored bulbs

Strung from limb to limb

They took the light of God

And made the world dim

He died on a different tree.

There were no presents beneath

With bows of brightest red

Our gift and our redemption

Are in the veins that bled

He died on a different tree.

The tinsel didn’t shimmer silver

And beads of gold were never strung

But this was the costliest gift

That ever could be hung

He died on a different tree.

There was no smell of evergreen

Or pine scent anywhere

The stench of dying Deity

Did permeate the air

He died on a different tree.

There was no fancy tag attached

That designates ‘who-to’

But God made it very plain

It simply reads – ‘for you!’

He died on a different tree.

It wasn’t chosen for it’s color

It’s height, shape, or beauty

This tree has but one branch

And it reaches to Heaven, you see

He died on a different tree.

One is lovely to look upon

The other battered and bruised

Today will you decide

Which tree will you choose?

Jesus died on a different tree.

Yes, this was the costliest gift that ever could be hung. It cost God the Father his dearly beloved Sons’ death on the cross. The can be no higher price. “For ye are bought with a price…” – (I Cor.6:20). The shed blood of the Lord Jesus was the purchase price of our salvation. The world priced the blood of God’s son at 30 pieces of sliver – “And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood” – (Mt.27:6). The costliest gift in the universe was valued at 30 pieces of silver. O the blindness of the sinful human heart. Repent of your sins an receive God’s free gift today. Don’t reject this most precious gift. Be saved and born again now. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” – (Rom.6:23).
