Gaza and the Black Ethiopian Eunuch

And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza which is desert. And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus” – (Acts 8:26-29,35).

Today, Jan.2, 2009, I was reading about Gaza in Israel. Israel sent their armed forces in there to stop them from shooting 200 rockets a day upon their cities. Gaza is controlled by Hamas, terrorists who refuse to live in peace with Israel. The only Gaza in the N.T. is in (Acts 8:26) with the account of Philip the evangelist and the black Ethiopian eunuch.

This meeting between Philip and the eunuch was divinely prepared by God. The eunuch was on his way to Gaza from Jerusalem where he had worshipped. Philip was told to go there by an angel and by the Holy Spirit to join the black man in his chariot. The result was that the black Ethiopian eunuch got saved and was the fulfillment of O.T. prophesies pertaining to the Gentiles being saved and becoming a part of the people of God through Christ, the Jewish Savior. That people of every tongue, and kindred, and people, and nation, and color, could become a member of the church of Christ. The salvation of the black Ethiopian eunuch was clearly God’s way of showing that important fact.

The eunuch was emasculated by castration because he served among the women under Queen Candace. He had gone to Jerusalem to worship the true God, and was probably a Jewish proselyte. He was the beginning of the great Pagan world of Gentiles that was now to have the gospel of Christ preached to them – (Gentiles are 99.7% and Jews are .3% of the world). He was the first of three remarkable salvations. In (Acts 8) here, we have the salvation of a black Ethiopian, a representative of the racial family of Ham. In (Chap.9) we have the salvation of Saul, a Jew, a representative of the racial family of Shem. And in (Acts 10) we have the salvation of Cornelius, a Roman centurion, a representative of the racial family of Japeth: the three great racial families of the world. They are now made one in the family of God by faith in Jesus Christ. God’s grace is for every race.

The black Ethiopian eunuch brings two new dimensions to the meaning of “all nations” and “to every creature,” as it appears in the great commission – racial and sexual. “Every creature” – (Mk.16:15) includes people of all races and nations. God does not discriminate against people because of race. God showed this also later to Peter in (Acts 10:34) “…Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.” To have an all white or an all black church deliberately is heresy. It’s fundamental marching orders from our Commander, that if a man won’t preach to someone because of the color of their skin or allow them into their church, he’s not qualified to be a preacher. Philip and the black Ethiopian eunuch teaches that truth, being the first Gentile saved in the Church. If we’ve born again and baptized by the Holy Spirit, we’re a part of the one body of Christ – “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles…” – (I Cor.12:13).

The sexual eunuch part means that we must preach the gospel to sodomites and other fornicators as well. But there is a deeper and more exact reason why God chose a black eunuch to be the first Gentile saved and it especially points to our ‘all white’ churches in the Southeastern U.S. The white pastors will not preach to or allow blacks into their churches because they don’t believe that whites and blacks should have sex together and they will not marry them. They believe that whites would mongrelize their pure race. It’s a sexual thing and God pointed right to it with the word ‘eunuch.’ This is pride and heresy.

The Bible never forbids interracial marriage, only interreligious marriage. It forbids saved-unsaved marriages. It forbids white heart – black heart marriage. In (Num.12:1-16) we see this plainly with Moses and his black Ethiopian wife (there’s the Ethiopian and sex again). “And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman he had married… And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them: and he departed… and behold Miriam became leprous, white as snow” – (Num.12:1,9,10). Moses’ brother and sister were filled with the same racial pride and prejudice we see in the U.S. today. Miriam was plagued with white skin leprosy for her black skin sin. It’s not skin, it’s sin. It’s the inward, not the outward that God looks at. “For the Lord seeth not as man seeth: for man looketh on the outward appearance , but the Lord looketh on the heart” – (I Sam.16:7). God wants a heart washed white as snow in the blood of Christ, not a white skin. If you’re saved and born again in Christ, then Christ accepts you into His Church and you become His bride, and so should every preacher accept you into his church and marry you. We could say that Moses and his black wife symbolized Christ and His bride, the church, made up of Jews and Gentiles. Moses’ wife was a Gentile.

I believe that in the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, Moses married a black woman. Moses, as the symbol of the law, shows us that no racial laws should be passed against interracial marriage (like miscegenation) and no preacher should preach against it. With Moses’ black Ethiopian wife and the black Ethiopian eunuch, God was teaching us this vital fact – there is to be no racial prejudice and bigotry and segregation with God’s people. All barriers to salvation for all people and nations and colors are broken down at the cross. And so it is written – “Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the Lord, speak, saying, The Lord hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. For thus saith the Lord unto the eunuchs that keep my Sabbaths. And choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place…” – (Is.56:3-5). So the eunuch is saved on the way to Gaza. He has no descendants in his family tree, but he’s been saved at the tree-cross and now he’s a part of the family of God.

May every preacher of Christ preach to every creature like Philip did. (I’ve only had one black person as a member of my church and his name is Philip and now I know why). On the cross of Christ, God has torn down the veil into the most holy place and salvation is offered to every creature.

The black eunuch got saved between Jerusalem and Gaza, between Jew and Arab Gentiles. The modern day Jews and Arabs need to be saved by Christ, and only then will they do peace. Only Christ, the Prince of peace, can give true peace in the human heart – peace with God – (Rom.5:11). Both the Jews and Arabs reject Christ, the Jewish Savior of the world. Salvation started with the Jews in Jerusalem, and with the Gentiles on the road to Gaza and we see the gospel ending there today. The gospel is being finished being preached to the whole world and soon comes the Great Tribulation and Armageddon. It’s like I can see black president Obama in the road between Jerusalem and Gaza trying to make peace and reconcile Jews and Arabs. But it’s the Antichrist way of peace and not Christ’s way and the short peace explodes in a nuclear Armageddon. Obama, the child of a black, bigamist father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas fits perfectly with the black Ethiopian eunuch.

There are scriptures about Gaza that prophesy of these end times in which we live just prior to the Great tribulation, ending with all the nations of the world uniting their armies together against Israel in a fiery Armageddon. God tells us exactly what will trigger the fierce anger of the Lord – It’s Gaza – the same Gaza that is in the news constantly. “…in the day of the Lord’s wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land. Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nations not desired; Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the Lord come upon you, before the day of the Lord’s anger come upon you. Seek ye the Lord, all the meek of the earth, which have wrought judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness. It may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord’s anger. For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up. Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast, the Cherethites! The word of the Lord is against you; O Canaan, the Land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that where shall be no inhabitant. The sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks. And the sea coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah: they shall feed there upon; in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening…” – (Zeph.1:18 – 2:7). It will get worse and worse between Gaza and Israel, leading up to Armageddon. Watch – watch – watch. There are 400,000 people in Gasa City today and 200,000 in Ashdod and 24,000 in Ashkelon. They’re scheduled for destruction. The remnant of Israel left after Armageddon shall inhabit the land of the Philistines and Gaza forever. The Lord Jesus will rule as Emperor over the earth forever and ever.

The Palestinian Arabs in Gaza have a 20,000 man army that is always sniping at Israel. When Israel is besieged by the worlds’ armies at Armageddon, then they must fight a simultaneous war against an enemy from without and also one from within.

Are you saved and born again? If not, repent of your sins and believe on Christ in your heart by faith and you will receive forgiveness of sin and be saved from hell and become a new born creature in Christ. You have conquered death and have eternal life – “the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” – (Rom.6:23). Born again describes what happens to you when you’re truly saved. You die spiritually with Christ on the cross, your old man dies and you become a new man in Christ. You have a new heart and a new Spirit and you walk in new holy steps. You’re a new creature with a new holy tongue that no longer curses the Lord, but praises Him. You’ve been baptized by the Holy Spirit and you speak with a new tongue. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” – (2 Cor.5:17).
