American Football and Armageddon

“This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay” – (Dan.2:32-33).

“He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball…” – (Is.22:18).

God created this earth and he made Rome and Italy exactly like a leg and foot so that the Romans would be the  fourth world empire ruling the world when Jesus was born in fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy. Caesar Augustus was the first emperor of Rome when Jesus was born and Tiberias Caesar ruled when the Lord Jesus started preaching the gospel of the kingdom in fulfillment of (Dan.2:44) “And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed.”

God didn’t create Italy like a boot, but like a leg and foot kicking the Football of Sicily, the home of violent and wicked mafia. It points to the last empire of the beast that rules the world just before Jesus comes back as King of Kings and the final world emperor that rules forever over the kingdom of God on earth. The feet of Rome is the revived Roman Empire ruled by antichrist and it ends in the battle of Armageddon at the end of the great tribulation. Armageddon is the fiery end of the world by fire (2 Pet.3:10). I believe this is caused by nuclear bombs that the armies of several nations have poised right now – including Israel. (But none more than U.S who invented the bomb). The U.S. is the foot of a revived Roman Empire and last superpower before Jesus comes. We are the foot kicking the football. We invented the violent game of American football as we invented the violent H-Bomb.

But I want to show you today American football as a metaphor for war and in particular the last war of Armageddon. The president of the U.S. has a black briefcase that is carried by a military soldier and goes everywhere the president goes. In this briefcase are the nuclear codes that only the president may use to launch our nuclear missiles. It is called “The Football.” This nuclear football bag is the most important piece of luggage in the world. It hands off like a football from one president to another. The president’s finger is on the trigger to burn up the world in a fiery Armageddon. Russia has two “Football’s” which is much better. An American physicist from Rome, Enrico Fermi, conducted the first nuclear chain reaction in 1942 at the University of Chicago that led to the Atom bomb. The experiment took place in a football stadium called stag Field. Certainly God was showing U.S.American football and Armageddon.

We hear of “Austin Armageddon,” a term in the Texas football league. And Cardinals vs. Kentucky.- “The annual Armageddon” and “The Armageddon Game – Alabama vs. Arkansas.” And “This is as close to Armageddon as it gets in high school football.” Yesterday in the “U.S.A. News,” there was the main story about high school football. It was entitled – “Football Arms Race” and told how high schools are emulating colleges by building and spending for football. Texas is called “Football holy land of Texas” and it points to Israel and the real holy land and Armageddon. Yes building 20 million dollar high school stadiums – an arms race indeed. We build these giant coliseums and have become a gladiator culture like the Old Roman Empire. We are the New Rome – the Last Empire of the beast – the foot kicking the football of (Dan.2).

The article was spawned by the book and new movie – “Friday Night Lights” by H.G. Bissinger. It’s about Friday night football in Odessa, Texas – the Permian High Panthers – one of the nation’s top football high schools. Midland, Texas, a few miles from Odessa, is another top ranked high school for football. (Odessa is ranked 11th in the nation and Midland 25th). Now listen, presidents George Bush Sr. and Junior lived in both of these cities for 11 years. When Bissinger wrote the book in 1988 while living in Odessa, President Bush sr. campaigned there for President of U.S. President Bush carried the “Nuclear Football” for 4 years and now his son carries it and wants to carry it 4 more years while showing off his cowboy “boots.” Yes, Texas, the football holy land, bigger and bolder. That’s Texas and that’s Texan President Bush as he deals with Israel and the mid-east and the land of Armageddon. Yes, football and Armageddon and the end of the world. And it’s not happenstance that Bissinger is a Jew from N.Y.

We have Jr. High, freshman, Jr. Varsity and Varsity school football teams and all are being taught to be violent and to be good soldiers. Football teaches our children that brutality and meanness and violence and hitting others is good entertainment and makes them heroes. 20 % of these children are injured during the season with many getting brain injuries and some even are killed and all sustain deteriorating health to their bodies. Adults and parents are sacrificing their children on the altar of football. It’s of the world and no Christian has any business getting involved in it. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him” – (I John 2:15).

Football as a metaphor for war and the language is the same. Its war on a small scale – offensive and defensive war. Linemen battle in the trenches while coaches draw up strategic game plans. The quarterback is both field general and fighter pilot unleashing air attacks to support the infantry. We hear- trigger-happy quarterback – lead the assault – fighters – troops – sneak attack – long bomb – tomahawk ball loose – took a shot – getting killed – warriors of  the gridiron and the popular cry – “Kill em.” We hear – break the enemy lines – blitzes – aerial assaults and ground attacks – penetrate deep into enemy territory – the kicking game is the artillery work – deep threat – death grip – quick strike – the air force with wide receivers soften the enemy defenses to get ground attacks moving. Air and land forces commanded by the field general, the quarterback and he keeps in touch with superiors higher up in the chain of command, like coaches, co-ordinaters and head coach. Training of football players closely resembles that of soldiers. Calisthenics in group formation – high stepping in cadence – psychological indoctrination that makes them mean and puts the team before individuals. This is basic training, and then skilled training begins at particular positions.

Even the bands at half time play military marching music by John Philip Sousa. Sousa was a soldier and led the Marine Corps band and served as musical director for the U.S. Army. Eisenhower thought football a perfect metaphor for war. He was a football player in high school and also a halfback at West Point. Then he became a successful football coach for army units. He was good at strategic game plans and then he did the same in the army plans department. He became a 5-Star general in WWII and then Commander-in-Chief as President for 8 years. He was the first president to have the “Nuclear Football.” And he was born in the football holy land of Denison, Texas.

Violent football prepares young men to be soldiers on the much more violent battlefield of war. To like football, you must enjoy seeing large men hit each other. You must love violence. It conditions Americans to cheer for their warriors after the star spangled banner is played. It teaches people to take pride and pleasure on the use of force to dominate others. It helps to prepare our empire’s next soldiers. We chop up these young bodies in football to train them for even greater destruction of their bodies in perpetual war. Coach Vince Lombardi said, “Football is war – bruising, nasty, violent.” Yes – American football and Armageddon.

And American football is much more violent than European football – soccer. The history of our football shows the violent nature of Americans.  We love football and we love war and like to watch both on T.V. Football teaches kids to hit and tackle other kids and the harder they hit, the better they are considered to be. Every fall Friday night, millions of people gather in stadiums across the U.S. to watch high school kids injure themselves and hurt other kids. It’s a taxpayer funded violence that injures and kills kids. Baseball is where we were – football is what we have become.

On Sept. 9th 2000 (two days before 9/11) President Bush became the first president to launch the NFL season by flipping the inaugural coin. President Bush gives the commander-in-chief trophy to the winning military college football team each year. I quote President Bush at the Air Force academy as he gives the trophy. “The interesting thing about this group of seniors is they have never lost to army or navy. But upon graduation, they’re going to be on the same team – and that’s important for us to remember. During last May’s visit, I said of coach Deberry, ‘he is not just recruiting to win football games, he is recruiting to win our nation’s wars.’ I’m proud of what this group of American have done on the football field. And I’m proud of your commitment to our country. See this enemy of ours, they don’t understand the A.F. Academy or what it stands for. They thought we were weak- of course, they never saw the A.F. football team play, they thought we’d just roll over. We’re here to honor a football team, we’ve also here to honor soldiers, men and women who wear our uniform and who are willing to sacrifice for the greatest nation on the face of the earth.”

The President of the U.S. is commander-in-chief. He is the 6-star general who controls all our armed forces. He has control of the nuclear football, which can destroy earth many times over. And one day these end of the world footballs, these ball-istic missiles will be thrown in the war called Armageddon. The black bag, the nuclear football, has the playbooks for the Armageddon bowl. The Lord Jesus said about this time, “And except these days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake these days shall be shortened” – (Mt.24:22). This world is shaped like a ball and all worldly people love ball games. But O saint of God – saved and born again- stay away from sports. Don’t follow the world because you are worlds apart. This whole ball-shaped world is destined to become a great ball of fire. “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night: in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up” – (2 Pet.3:10). American football and Armageddon – are you listening?

We see American football and Armageddon come together in the movie – “The Crimson Tide.” It’s about a U.S. trident submarine named “Alabama” and the football team of the University of Alabama, called “The Crimson Tide.” Their captain even leads them in Alabama cheers. They come close to launching their 24 missiles that have eight 475 kiloton warheads on each missile equal to 304 Hiroshima bombs. The combined 192 warheads on one sub is equal to 7,296 Hiroshimas or the possible death of over one billion people. The U.S. has 14 trident subs which today threatens 14 billion people – 2 1/3 times the earth’s population. A trident is a three-pronged soldier’s spear seen in the devil’s hand in pictures, and is the fulfillment of (Joel 3:9-10) “Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears: let the weak say I am strong.” Trident submarines are killing spears unparalleled in human history.

It is written in (Jn.19:34) “But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” O take the spear – pierced one on the cross as your savior and you need not fear the spear of the great tribulation wrath of God. Take the soldier’s spear of salvation and God’s grace and the soldier’s spear, the trident sub, and the wrath of God will not come upon you.

Are you born again and saved by the Lord Jesus Christ. Repent of your sins and believe on him in your heart for remission of sins. Church membership or being baptized or confirmed won’t save you – only the savior can save you. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” – (Acts 4:12). Because Jesus Christ is coming soon “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction…” (2 Thes.2:8,9). Football is deadly.- be ready to come back with Jesus after the rapture and take part in the greatest touchdown in history when we touchdown with Jesus on the Mt. of Olives. Be a winner – be saved. Amen and Amen.
