Beast of Babylon

“Let his heart be changed from man’s, and let a beasts’ heart be given unto him: and let seven times pass over him. This matter is by decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men” – (Dan.4:16,17).

Nebuchadnezzar, the world emperor of Babylon, was puffed up with pride and God abased him to the level of a beast. God gave him a heart of a beast and an unsound mind and he lived and ate with the beasts. No man was ever humbled so low from so high a position. From the ruler of the world to living with the beasts and losing his reason and acting like a beast. This pictures so plainly the Antichrist – Beast, the last end-time emperor of this world, who also has heart of a beast- a cruel and evil beast of a man with no human compassion at all. He kills millions of God’s saints because they will not worship his image or receive his mark in their forehead or their right hand – 666. “And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” – (Rev.13:2,7,8). God gives Antichrist a name that fits him perfectly- God calls him – THE BEAST – while the world calls him God.

Nebuchadnezzar is the most important type of antichrist-beast found in the bible and knowing him is to know ‘the beast.’ Antichrist will be the emperor of New Babylon during the great tribulation. Satan’s angelic name ‘Lucifer’ is taken form the prophecies of Babylon in (Is.14) and show’s Satan’s pride. Like Nebuchadnezzar, the Beast will be the proudest man who ever lived, even claming to be God. “Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped: so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God” – (2 Thes.2:4). Nebuchadnezzar was our example of a proud king humbled to a beast “Those that walk in pride he is able to abase” – (Dan.4:37). Jesus said in (Mt.23:12) “He that exalts himself shall be abased.”

The proud king is likened to a high exalted tree and God cuts him down to size. God abases the proud tree down to a lowly stump – the stump is the beast. He was abased from being a proud world emperor down to a humble beast of the field, eating grass like oxen and dwelling with wild asses. All this abasing of King Nebuchadnezzar was to show the living (that’s us) that our Heavenly Father rules over the kingdoms of men and gives it to whomsoever he wills and sets up over it the basest of men – “The powers the be are ordained of God” – (Rom.13:1). And God will give this wicked world “the beast” who is called “That wicked” – (2 Thes.2:8). In (Jn.19:11) Pilate said to Jesus “Knowest not thou that I have power to crucify thee and have power to release thee? Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above.” Yes, God rules in the kingdoms of men. He is sovereign over all.

And God has elected his beloved Son to be the world emperor and rule forever and ever. Jesus humbled himself on the lowliest of trees, the cross, and God will exalt Him as the highest tree of all. “And he that shall humble himself shall be exalted” – (Mt.23:12). “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name” – (Philip.2:8,9). “The kingdoms of the world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ: and he shall reign for ever and ever” – (Rev.11:15) “King of Kings, and Lord of Lords”- (Rev. 19:16).

God’s holy angels are ‘watchers’. His cherubim are full of eyes (Rev.4:8) and they watch everything – “They rest nor day nor night.” The eyes of the Lord are everywhere – “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do” – (Heb.4:13). Jesus also watched and told us to watch - to be vigilant – to be watchmen and watch and pray. “Blessed is he that watcheth” – (Rev.16:15). We are saints and holy ones of God watching for the second coming of the Lord Jesus and ‘the beast” of Babylon who will rule the earth for seven years like Nebuchadnezzar of old. The beast of Babylon is coming again.

God touched the proud king’s mind and heart and turned him into a madman beast – the beast of Babylon. He lived with and acted like the beasts for seven years – “Till seven times pass over him” – (Dan.4:23). The final Beast of Revelation will reign as Emperor over the world for seven years during the great tribulation, which is divided into two halves of 42 months – “A time and times and the dividing of time” – (Dan.7:25 and Rev.12:14 and 13:5). Seven times will ‘pass over’ this earth as God’s judgment and wrath is poured out on this earth upon all who have rejected the ‘Passover lamb of God,” the Lord Jesus, who was crucified on the day of Passover.

God shows us this same ‘seven times’ of punishment for sins in (Lev.26) “And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins”- (Lev.26:18). This is repeated four times in this chapter.

The thing we must remember is that Nebuchadnezzar was stricken with madness for seven years, which is prophetic of the seven years of the great tribulation just before the second coming of Christ. The ‘seven times’ foreshadow the seven years of the rule of Antichrist – the Beast, the last emperor. This beast will also be mad and he stands for the madness of the nations during the tribulation. The Beast, the final madman beast of Babylon, will have a heart of a beast. He will end up like Hitler – raving mad. His final act of madness is to push the buttons of nuclear M.A.D. (Mutual Assured Destruction) and burn up the world. We have been living under this nuclear bomb madness for six decades now. “As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows and death” – (Prov.20:18).

The great tribulation when men in their madness will act like beasts and worship the beast. And like with Nebuchadnezzar, God is the one who will give them this madness. In (Du.28) God tells us of the blessings He will bestow upon us if we live Godly lives and the curses if we live ungodly, wicked lives. – “The Lord shall smite thee with madness…” – (Du.28:28) and again – “So that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see” – (vs.34). Just think about how fearful the wicked people of the great tribulation will be who receive the mark of the beast and worship him and his image. Think about the 21 judgments that fall upon them – 42 months with no rain – hail and fire mingled with blood and a third part of the trees and grass is burnt up – a third part of the sea becomes blood – bitter waters – sun and moon and stars darkened – locusts with scorpion tails and stinging and torturing people - grievous sores – all rivers and waters became blood – very hot sun that scorches people with great heat and finally Armageddon and the burning of the whole world.

With no water to drink and no rain and scorching heat this will be enough to drive men to madness. O’ the great fearfulness – that gives men unsound minds – “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and of a sound mind” – (2 Tim.1:7). They rejected sound wisdom and sound words of the Bible. When the great tribulation trumpets sound, unsound minds will accelerate greatly – the world becomes mad because they follow the madman beast of Babylon. The mark of the beast is the mark of madness.

Twice it is prophesied that N.T. Babylon of Revelation will go mad – “For it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols” – (Jer.50:38). Like the world that worships the image of the beast. “Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine: therefore the nations are mad” (Jer.51:7). God will use the proud end time Beast to humble the proud and haughty nations of the world.

Nebuchadnezzar’s wise men were stumped when they couldn’t interpret the king’s vision of a high tree cut down to a stump by God. U.S. Presidential candidates go on the stump every four years making political speeches during their campaigns and stumping in order to get elected to the most powerful office in the world. They are totally ignorant of what God taught us through Nebuchadnezzar and his stump. “That the most High God ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and seeth up over it the basest of man” – even a beast. And God has elected his Son to be emperor of earth forever and ever. Sin started on a tree in Eden and forgiveness of sin is by Jesus Christ on the lowly tree cross. Nebuchadnezzar, the high tree, was cut down to a stump because he refused to repent of his sins. The beast of Babylon – U.S.A. could very well be ‘stumping’ for president very soon.

God’s salvation rules out pride – that is the one thing you cannot have when you come to Christ for salvation. You need to humble yourself and turn from your wicked ways and turn to God, which Nebuchadnezzar refused to do even though God gave him a grace period to do it – (Daniel 4:27-32).  We can know the peace and tranquility that comes from God and we won’t need tranquilizers. A great deal of the mental and emotional problems today are the result of spiritual problems – it’s rooted in the sinful spiritual condition of men. Salvation and forgiveness of sins by Jesus Christ is the way of peace – “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” – (Rom.5:1).

Don’t spurn the grace of God during your lifetime. Avail yourself of the grace and mercy of God in His beloved Son. Salvation is a free gift of God. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” – (Eph.2:8). Repent of your sins and turn by faith to the Lord Jesus Christ and He will save you- for He is the one and only Savior of this world.

Nebuchadnezzar exalted himself as a high tree that reached to heaven and God abased him to a stump. Jesus humbled himself on the lowly tree cross and God has highly exalted Him with a name above every name. He’s coming back from heaven to rule the world. ‘The branch’ who carried the tree to Calvary to shed His blood for the sins of the world is destined to be the highest tree of all. “Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords” – (I Tim.6:15). And He defeats the Antichrist – beast of Babylon – USA at Armageddon. Gulf War I and Gulf War II has shown us that the title of Babylon the Great has passed form Old Testament Babylon-Iraq to New Testament Babylon-USA. The battle between the two Babylons is over and the U.S. has now conquered Iraq for this climatic showdown in these end times – the showdown between the two Babylons.
