“Our friend Lazarus sleepth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking rest in sleep. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes...” - (Jn.4:14,45,44).

In the U.S. and many parts of the world they will hold ‘a wake,’ meaning (a watch held over the body of a dead person prior to burial). Well that's the kind of ‘awake’ Jesus was using with his disciples when He told that that He would awake Lazarus from the sleep of death. They thought He was talking about rest in sleep, but then Jesus said plainly - “Lazarus is dead.” A little while later at the gravesite Jesus shouted out “Lazarus come forth” and Lazarus rose from the dead and walked out of the cave in his grave clothes.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the great Awakener, who shall awaken all the bodies of His dead saints that were saved by Him unto eternal life. All death is, for the bodies of born again saints of God, is going to sleep and awakening with a new incorruptible, immortal body like Jesus had after He resurrected. “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied when I awake, with thy likeness” - (Ps.17:15). And so all those saved bby Christ shall awake from death with a body like Christ’s - “Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body...” - (Philip.3:21).

Every dead body on planet earth shall awake, some to everlasting life and some to everlasting death in the lake of fire. “And many of them that sleep is the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt” - (Dan.12:2). The bodies of the righteous saved will be raised at the rapture - this is the first resurrection - but the wicked will be resurrected a thousand years later. This is the second resurrection - (Rev.20:1-6).

When a person repents of his sins and truly believes in Christ in their heart, they are saved and born again into a new creature in Christ. They have ‘awakened’ or quickened from death unto life, spiritually. “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins” - (Eph.2:1). We die spiritually with Christ on the cross, and we are born again unto newness of life. “Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light” - (Eph.5:14). A sinner is in gross spiritual darkness, like a person sleeping with his eyes closed in the darkness of death, and when he’s born again he raises from death and darkness unto life and light in Christ. First you must have a spiritual resurrection before you can have a bodily resurrection.

We are plainly told of awakening from death in the O.T. - “Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead” - (Is.26:19). The born again saints are the body of Christ and by virtue of their union with Him will awaken and raise from the dead. Soon the reveile trumpet of the archangel Michael shall blow and all the dead and living saints shall be raptured and translated up to be with the Lord Jesus. Reveile means ‘awaken’ and all the dead soldiers of Christ shall awake from the dead and be raptured up. “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words” - (I Th.4:14-18). The rapture is the great awakening.

Have you been born again and awakened from death in trespasses and sins? If not, repent of your sins and believe in Christ in your heart by faith and you will receive forgiveness of sins and be saved from hell and become a new born again creature in Christ having eternal life. Be awakened and born again from spiritual death unto life by the Holy Spirit. O church member, don’t be deceived by Satan by believing you’re saved even though you’re not born again. Born again describes what happens to you when you’re truly saved. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again” - (Jn.3:6,7).
