“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin: that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” - (2 Cor.5:20,21).
“For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak” - (Eph.6:20).
A political ambassador is a minister of the highest rank accredited to a foreign government or sovereign as the official representative of his own government or king and is authorized to speak in the ruler’s behalf. “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ...” We are in a foreign land - we are strangers and pilgrims down here - (Heb.11:13). So then we are ambassadors for Christ on this earth. We who are born again witnesses, we who preach, we who are missionaries, have been called by God to be ambassadors worldwide. It is our duty, calling and privilege to preach salvation and reconciliation to God through Christ. We are spiritual ministers of the King of Kings - The Lord Jesus Christ.
An ambassador is a person sent to do what the sovereign himself would do if he were present. Ambassadors are to make known the will of their sovereign and are under obligation to obey his king’s instructions. We are to continue what Christ did when He was here on earth in person. We are to preach the gospel of Christ and God’s redemption and reconciliation through His Son. We have no right to change or alter King Jesus' words in any way. To be an ambassador for Christ is a high and noble privilege, but it carries with it a very grave responsibility - we deliver the word of God. “... As though God did beseech you by us...” It’s as though God did speak to you by us.
“We pray you in Christ’s stead....” The message given by God’s witnesses is not their own message, it is the message of God and God’s message is - “...be ye reconciled to God.” In His great love and mercy God has done all He can do to help man escape the damnation of hell. He gave His only begotten Son to be our scapegoat and atonement for sin by shedding His precious blood on the cross for our sins. He is the sin-bearer for our sins.
God gave us a scapegoat, His Son on the cross
He became sin for the world, His blood was the cost.
God has removed all the obstacles to reconciliation between Himself and man. He hast done all that is needed to bring about peace and reconciliation between a just and holy God and sinners. “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” - (I Tim.2:4,5).
O what a great pleasure and responsibility it is to be an ambassador for Christ, the King of Kings. Soon our emperor returns to rule over this earth forever, and then He will promote all his saved, faithful ambassadors to kings and priests. “...for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by the blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth” - (Rev.5:9,10). We are ambassadors for Christ, and our embassy is the throne of God.
Paul, even as a prisoner of Rome, was an ambassador in bonds for King Jesus to preach salvation through Christ to the world to be reconciled to God. As a prisoner, he kept appealing to a higher court, even unto Caesar. He preached the gospel from the King of heaven to these puny earthly kings, as God’s faithful ambassador for Christ even unto death. And being a prisoner, Rome paid his traveling expenses while he did it.
Soon God will send His last two prophets, his two great witnesses, two great ambassadors for Christ, who will preach the gospel of reconciliation through Christ to the whole world. They will do many miracles and get the world’s attention for three and a half years until they’re killed by the Beast, but God authenticates their ministry by resurrecting them after three days - (Rev.11). They are ambassadors of peace (Is.33:7) but the Antichrist “Shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them” - (Rev.11:7). They will be ambassadors-at-large, ministers of God to all the nations.
Have you made peace and reconciliation with God? Have you been saved and born again by Christ? If not, repent of your sins and believe in Christ in your heart by faith and you will receive forgiveness of sins and be saved from hell and become a new born again creature in Christ having eternal life. Born again describes what happens to you when you’re truly saved. O do not spurn the love and grace of God in His beloved Son on the cross or the wrath of God abides upon you. Sin started on a tree in Eden, and sin was atoned for on the tree-cross of Christ on Calvary. “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life: but the wrath of God abideth on him” - (Jn.3:36).
