“…for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God” – (Rom.14:10,12).
Accountability is the biblical principal that we are liable to be called to account before the Lord Jesus for our words and deeds. We are answerable to the Lord for our lives and responsible, both for the good and evil of our lives. This is an awesome responsibility: that everyone on earth is totally responsible to God for our lives and we shall all stand before the Lord as Judge and give account to Him.
Both the saved and the lost shall give account. There is no escaping it – We shall not shirk our responsibility and blame others for our sins then. All shall have personal accountability – Christians at the judgment seat of King Jesus and the lost at the Great White Throne Judgment – (Rev.20:11-15). The Lord is the accountant; He has the books of our lives in His hands. Judgment is accountability time. It’s individual responsibility time.
We love to shirk our responsibility and blame others for our sins. Adam blamed Eve for his sin – “The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat” – (Gen.3:12). Eve also refused to be responsible for her sin – “The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat” – (Gen.3:13). They both told the truth to God, but they would not be personally responsible for putting the fruit in their mouths with their own hands and eating it. And so God judged them with death, not immediately but years later in the flesh, but they died spiritually immediately, dead in sins.
It’s like we are all on death row awaiting the electric chair and many years later the judgment falls. All the appeals failed, all the excuses and cries of innocence failed, all the blaming of others and a bad trial failed. They were guilty and now they must pay the penalty. “…that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God” – (Rom.3:19). Accountability time. It’s an awesome thing to stand in front of God as Adam and Eve did and be held responsible for our actions and unable to blame Satan or bad companions. God’s verdict upon the whole human race is already given, written in His law book, the Bible – Guilty. Your judgment before God is not to determine guilt or innocence, but only to determine your sentence.
Jesus said – “That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment” – (Mt.12:36). Sinning with our mouths, speaking sins, the most common of all sins. Awesome accountability – giving account for every word in our whole lifetime. For our swearing and cursing both God and man. For all our lies and filthy words and angry words and certainly for all our written words as well.
Our whole lives are recorded by God on TV – both audio and video. It will be an awesome thing to have our whole lives recorded by God and have the tapes played back to us at our judgment. We think we weren’t caught, that we got away with it, it was dark – but there it is brought to light. Words today travel over wires and satellite worldwide. People carry phones with them whereever they go. Our responsibility is much greater today than at any other time in human history. (TV, Internet, fax, radio, phone, written words – words) – amen. But nobody gets away with nothing in the final analysis. “For there is not a word in my tongue but lo, Lord, thou knowest it altogether” – (Ps.139:4). “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do” – (Heb.4:13). Awesome, personal accountability – amen. Our own words will condemn us. Even though the wicked are bold in a group to commit sin, they will be judged individually.
All the wicked unsaved who have rejected Christ will go to hell, but the degree of their punishment will vary according to their works. All the saved and born again saints who have received Christ will go to heaven, but they will be rewarded according to their works. “And, behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be” – (Rev.22:12). Both our good and bad works will be rewarded, whether we go to heaven or to hell. Perfect judgment – awesome accountability. You won’t get away with anything.
Are you saved and born again of God’s Holy Spirit? If not, repent of your sins and believe on Christ in your heart by faith and you will receive forgiveness of sins and become a newborn creature in Christ. If you are a born again saint of God, and there are areas of your life that need changing, repent and confess your sins to the Lord and do things God’s way. Remember these two words always – ‘personal accountability.’
You will be held personally accountable by God for your whole life.
